Makes sense ( now) but why was Pesky over grooming the area in the first place?Something had to be irritating him and that's what needs to be properly diagnosed so you can move forward and address whatever is the underlying cause- and let's hope it is something pretty simple and you can put it all behind you

Thanks You're right about the over grooming. Here are pictures of his stomach today. This is a vast improvement over last week when the whole area was dark purple.

Looks like an allergic dermatitus or fungal-there are sooooo many skin disorders that look so similar and that's why you needed all the tests youve had done- you might want to include some photos for the Vet as well
Pesky must be so uncomfortable,it's amazing how they hide their discomfort ,isn't it.Aside from the obvious it's very hard to tell something is wrong --- poor baby,Pesky is having a very pesky issue...... Give him a big hug from me and my clowder

Hey, I’m not sure how the weather is where you are, but if things are beginning to bloom maybe it’s pollen. Even if he’s never reacted before, it’s 100% possible for cats (and humans…or any animal tbh) to develop allergies later in life. The “weepy” stomach could be due to some sort of allergic dermatitis perhaps?? Of course I’m not a vet, just an owner of a cat with seasonal allergies who currently has a weepy stomach with red splotches. Has he been grooming himself more than usual on his stomach?? Or does he seem itchy?? If hes doing those two things I’d definitely see if it’s something allergic.

I hope he gets the help he needs!!

I am concerned that Pesky has a form of vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels, in this case the vessels in his skin). I've recommended some more tests to your vet including chest xrays, abdominal ultrasound, and biopsy of the skin to get us closer to a diagnosis and treatment plan specific for Pesky.

Thank you all. Pesky's doing a lot better. I've replaced his collar with a cat shirt that he wears in the day while monitored, and a collar at night so that he can't lick himself. There's been no sign of "leakage" for almost a week now and his stomach is healing. Here is a picture from this morning.

Also, I believe the rash was caused by the veterinarian clinic. We left him there overnight and when we picked him up he was drenched in urine. They left him sitting in urine all night and we know they also didn't feed him.
We also believe the wound was self inflicted. We noticed that because of his obesity he would grab that spot on his stomach with a repeated pull up motion and constantly lick the area damaging the skin.

I'll be the first to admit I could be wrong. If his recovery takes a turn I will without hesitation perform the additional tests. I'll update again once he has had time to recover. Thank you all again.

Wow- I'm thinking that if they left him drenched with urine who knows how well they clean and disinfect the cages- we don't know what he was exposed to- thst makes the most sense of everything to me

I kept saying " but why" these symptoms- what was the"cause" and that sounds like a reasonable explanation for such a sudden onset and I dont believe it was a coincidence that just happened after the Vets visit

His belly looks 100 times better already.... I like your plan for Pesky

A while back I had to evacuate for some hurricaine( can't remember) -I only had Graycie,Bella and Sami( Sami was still a baby,not even 10 months).I found a pet friendly motel and kept wondering about fleas and what they use to clean the rooms because little Samis lips blew up like a balloon-it had to be an allergic reaction to a chemical from that motel room-took him to the Vet and rather than a bunch of tests my Vet suggested to wait - the swelling went away and no reocurrence.....Pesky might very well be the same and I'd imagine my Vet suggesting exactly what you're doing

I went to the clinic and asked them if I could visit my cat for a few minutes while he was being held. I heard a poor cat screaming while having surgery and was told no because the kennels where the animals are held are in the surgery room... I just don't have words.

He looks very handsome in his vest and the sores look greatly improved. Now that you mention it, the redness does have a "diaper rash" look to it. It is unconscionable if that happened.

I'm posting this for anyone else who may experience these symptoms. The leaking came back and it was no longer clear but blood. I just came back from a new vet and had an ultrasound, more bloodwork, x-rays and biopsy performed.

Pesky has a mass around his liver, his spleen does not look good and something strange which could be a mass is also in the abdomen area. The stomach is not a rash but bruising from the pressure of the tumors.

They were worried he may have become anemic since the last bloodwork so they did bloodwork again, he is not anemic and the bloodwork is normal. They said the reason he is leaking is because the blood is not coagulating properly due to the mass and that he is in a lot of pain. It's strange because he’s still very playful and energetic. They’re giving him a few weeks to a few months to live.

The doctor was straight with me and told me that in her opinion based on the ultrasound and x-rays it is not operable and to let him live his life but to be humane and euthanize him before he takes a turn for the worse, although the specialist may have a different opinion. She also told me not to administer any of the drugs that were prescribed by the vet because they are not for what he has. She told me to trial metacam for pain relief for 4 days and barring any adverse effects to keep him on it until the end of his life.

There are further steps we can pursue such as an FNA which is a needle that will extract some of the mass around his liver for further analysis along with a CTC scan which will determine if the mass is operable and then possibly surgery but from our experience in the past, our previous cat, who we loved, passed away one day after surgery and I'm not putting Pesky through that hell.

My wife and I thank God he gave us 14 years with him and we are grateful.

I'd like to apologize to Antonio one more time because it's eating away at me. Goodbye for now.

Please come back whenever you feel the need to let us know how Pesky is or anything else that is going on. I am so sorry that you have received this diagnosis. Not doing the surgery is probably a wise decision so that he can enjoy his time in peace and comfort.

Hopefully Pesky will not suffer much and will be able to share a lot of good days with you. There will be good days and bad days. On bad days you might think it's time to put an end to it, but then a very good day will come and you'll be thankful for waiting one more day.
