Are you using a very mild soap or shampoo for cats?
Most don't like water, you have to be brave and just put her in and tell her what your going to do and do it! Don't wash her face, you can later wipe her face down with a soft damp cloth, you wouldn't want to get any soap in her eyes.
So you'll probably get a few scratches, but, she will thank you afterward when she is fluffy and clean and purring away.
ETA: Don't forget to rinse her well, cats need to be rinsed well.
Yes, a cat shampoo is best. They are made with ingredients known to be safe for a cat. Even though some use Human shampoos and don't have problems, they are made with ingredients safe for humans and it is not worth taking a chance. Stay away from any shampoo with tea tree oil in it. Dawn dishwashing liquid is safe for cats. When bathing, always follow with a final rinse of 2-3 gallons of water and 2-3 tablespoons of white vinegar. It helps to rinse out the soap and restore ph balance.Originally Posted by alcool9999
