Most people are unaware of the danger to pets from ethylene glycol based antifreeze poisoning.
Ingesting the smallest amount can cause kidney failure and death, especially in cats.
Ethylene Glycol based Antifreeze is deadly to pets, thousands of animals have died from ingesting the liquid which is used in all engines, The problem lies in the fact that antifreeze contains ethylene glycol which is extremely toxic to both people and animals. But there is a safer way.
Antifreeze products for automotive use containing propylene glycol in place of ethylene glycol are available, and are generally considered safer to use, as it possesses an unpleasant taste in contrast to the perceived "sweet" taste of toxic ethylene glycol-based coolants, and only produces lactic acid in an animal's body, as their muscles do when exercised
The high percentage of cats dying each year because of this is heartbreaking. They can walk past a car that has used Ethylene Glycol based antifreeze and then go on to lick their paw and just this tiny amount can kill them. It is a slow and painful death. We need to protect and beloved cats.
I propose we ban Ethylene Glycol based Antifreeze and use the safer option of propylene glycol based Antifreeze.
Please can you sign my petition to ban Ethylene Glycol based Antifreeze and use the safer option of propylene glycol based Antifreeze. #saveourcats
