My dad was mowing the high brush out in the back pasture a week or so ago, and as he's always alert while on the big Ford tractor, he managed to stop before he ran over a litter of kittens hidden in the tall grass. He put them in his hat and brought them up to the house and they were in real distress from dehydration, ect. It had been up in the 80's - hot and dry - and they had been without their mother for who knows how long. Mom (a retired OB nurse) mixed up some powdered electrolytes left over from when the puppies little, and tube-fed them all a few cc's, after which they all felt much better - no more panting and the color of their gums improved.
My Aunt Gloria took them all home and is hand raising them. Their eyes and ears are now open and has homes lined up for 4 of the five babies. To follow are some picute she sent me of them from the first day.
