Hi, I'm new here, though I've been reading so much in this page. The advise I read here has been way more precious than my vets!!!
My female cat has become a mom 2 wks ago exactly. She had to have emergency c-section. Only 2 out of 4 babies survived.
She managed to nurse them with the colostrum but on her 2nd day she started struggling with serious pain while nursing. I had to start feeding the babies with Royal canin formula. Did it for only 3 days, after which mom was able to nurse well full time
Babies only pooped without human help on their 4/5th day of life. Ever since it has been a problem! They are seriously bloated! Took them to vet, which gave them paraffin enema. Didn't work quite well. Day after vet again, started Lactulose 0.1ml twice dat orally. No luck after 48h... Vet again! Lactulose enema this time which worked for both babies... Carried on the twice a day oral Lactulose... 2 days later no poop again... Keeping ever bloated and the baby boy had pain while I was doing the stims... Vet again... Lactulose enema again... Had a good poop. 2 days later no poop other enema and only a massive big pressurised fart! Poor little boy! He hasn't popped for 4 days and only lets wind out now and then.
His tummy is starting to get hard again he had enema yesterday and no poop
Just gave him another enema and only a tiny fart came out
Need to mention I do clean their bottoms 4-5times a day, massage their bellies to help move the trapped wind...
These babies eat like mad! Absolute gluttons! Despite momma cat leaves the nest and lays down next to it. Any opportunity they squeeze her boobs in seconds!
I try to put them to burp and stim their bottoms before and after feeds as much I can (4-5x day)
I have started giving them boiled lukewarm water to help moist the poop and make them feel more full in order to nurse less (all vet advice)
I've asked vet if I can give them dimeticone or simeticone (baby stuff over the counter for wind) and he said not to give them and bring them in for enema instead!
I told the vet that the Lactulose is what is giving them the wind, as is a very common side effect of it. He said its true but keep giving it orally and also give it as enema as needed to help them poop...
Can kittens over nurse!???
Can I do anything about it!??
Can I give infacol or dentinox (simeticone/dimeticone) to the babies!?
Please help me, I don't want to lose these precious babies. Tkx a lot
