That is wonderful news, I had the same experience with Misty, she was gone for 2 days but came home and I went nuts too. How long was Ari gone.

He got out Sunday night.
I've had cats gone for longer periods (RB Minx was gone for almost 2 months), but that was in the old days when our cats could be indoor/outdoor cats and they were outdoor savvy. Ari has been and indoor only kitty.
He slept most of the night with me. Early this morning he went in and slept with Mom.
