The kitten was born totally white, and now is developing color on one ear.  Colorpoint kittens are always born pure white.  The expression of point color is controlled by tempoerature so in the womb there is no temperature variation.  Once out, the points will start to come in darker, according to their base color (flame, cream, seal, chocolate, blue, lilac etc. AND the common lynx point or tabby point in all those colors.)  I suspect that kitten is expressing the colorpoint gene (recessive, had to come from both parents in order to be seen, but parents dont have to show it to carry it).  Since it is only ONE ear showing the color, chances are he/she also has a white spotting gene to the place where the other ear is may be basically white.  Keep taking pictures as the kitten develops, this will be interesting to watch.  Also pay attention to the feet and tail as those are likely to be the other places developing color.
