Hi Everyone -
Any tips or tricks to getting liquid medicine (via a syringe) actually into a cat's mouth and having them swallow, LOL!?
The vet thought it would be easier to have the liquid than a pill, but now I"m not so sure!
This is day 2 (of 7 that we'll have to do) where I have gotten it all over the cat, me, the floor, etc.. It stinks like heck, so I don't blame my baby for objecting (although she could be a little less dramatic and violent about it!)
The poor dear is still holding a grudge against me for this morning's dosage, so I'm hoping maybe with a better method, maybe this won't be so bad.
Talking gently all the while, I get her positioned between my legs so she can't squirm backwards away from me, then open the mouth, insert syringe, close mouth (cat is NOT happy at this point), encourage swallowing with lots of head and face rubs (usually loves this but now she's pissed). She sounds like she finally swallows, then just becomes very still (to get more head rubs). I let her go after some time and she appears to calm down. Then, she takes off and spews out as much of the medicine as possible along the way. Then goes off to sulk. (sigh.)
Thanks!
