To like animals better than people!
When reading the local paper, I always peruse the classified ads under pets. (wishful thinking, I guess, LOL) Yesterday, there was an ad that read something like this, "Free spayed femaled cat, owners moved and left behind, 1-2 years old, prefers outdoors". Curious, I called the number. Sure enough, the woman tells me that this poor cat has been relying on the kidness of the neighborhood because her owners moved to Tennessee and LEFT HER BEHIND!!! However, the neighbors are worried because they live near a busy street and don't want her to be killed in traffic. I told the woman that I will take the cat. She is going to find out which neighbor currently has seen her last (a few have been leaving garage doors cracked so she can have some shelter), and call me back about coming to get her.
What is wrong with people?? They left this poor baby behind to fend for herself! If it hadn't been for a few kind neighbors, I shudder to think of the outcome. The woman that I spoke to on the phone said that she contacted the realtor who sold the cat owners' house, who in turn, contacted the owners. They told the realtor that they couldn't find the cat when they left, and had plans to come back to finish moving their stuff and IF the cat was still there, they'd take her. UGH! Needless to say, we hope that the poor thing will not be there. I'll keep you all posted.
