I'm making another quilt! It is a bit bigger this time, 36x45. I do NOT see how people machine quilt anything bigger than this on a regular machine. Maybe I'm just inexperienced, but it was very difficult. I ended up folding over the parts I had already quilted for it to fit in the machine.
I found a kit on sale at Joanns that came with 7 coordinating fabrics, and they had one of the fabrics on a bolt there so I bought that for the back. When I was trimming the edges I cut 6" off one side and sewed it horizontally on the back. For the quilting I just did a curve that criss crossed back and forth between two of the stripes, which in the end with the stitching along the edges of each stripe look like the leaves on the main fabric. Completely unintentional, but I wanted to do something nice since I still can't stipple yet without the correct foot for free motion quilting.
I think it is turning out really nice. It is for my friend who just had a baby girl on the 18th. Do you think it is girly enough?? She likes these colors, her son is 2 and she dresses him in mostly all these colors, but I wasn't sure if she would want something more "girly". All the fabrics have flowers on them...so... I couldn't find any matching pink fabrics that I liked.
I'm sewing on the binding tomorrow and hope to have it done by the time I go to bed, and I'll post those pictures when I'm done. The binding isn't going to be all one print this time, I'm taking strips from all the left over fabric and making a scrappy binding. I think it will be cute! I can't wait to see what it looks like after I wash it!!
Oh, the white around the edge is just the batting and the back sticking out. That will get trimmed off after I machine sew the binding on.
