Hey! I'm AJ and I have a 9 week old kitten named Toby. He has a pretty amazing story. A friend of mine had a stray cat in his old barn. Well, that cat had four kittens. The mother was carrying one of them across the road when they were hit. The kittens were barely weaned, wild, and terrified. I was getting ready to move into my own apartment and he offered me one of the kittens. They were eating and very slowly warming up to people. I was supposed to go look at them and pick one. That didn't work out. He told me the little black one was the friendliest. So, on move-in day, he brought me this adorable little black male kitten in a pet carrier. He said, "As soon as I open this, he's going to run." Well, little Toby shocked us. He wouldn't come out. We finally coaxed him and he became my baby almost instantly. He was sweet, well-behaved, and he appeared healthy. He warmed up to me in a matter of hours and that night, he slept on my feet. Now I've had him a little over two weeks. I've never had a cat before so I joined here to learn all I can from you wonderful, cat people.
He's going to the vet soon for shots and I'll have him neutered when he's old enough. I will never know what happened to his siblings, but he's destined for a great life. I'm keeping him indoors. He uses the litterbox wonderfully and I just got him a scratching post yesterday. He sure did enjoy playing on it.
That's Toby's short story.
I'm a Psychology major in college. I'm 25 years old and I live in middle Tennessee. My name is actually Alyssia, but some people call me AJ. You can call me either one and I'll respond.
I love animals, and I used to work at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Teaching Hospital as a vet assistant. I loved it. I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time with the cats. I mainly worked with dogs. So, I really don't know all that much about the feline species. I do know, however, that I am head-over-heels for my baby, Toby. He's solid black except for a very small patch of white on his chest. He's got huge, green eyes.
Thanks in advance for welcoming me. I look forward to learning from you all!
