My 2 year old, female cat has been having problems for the last couple of day. She had 2-3 days of soft stool, followed by 2 days of no poop. Even though she was eating, drinking, and acting fine I was worried, so I took her to the vet right away.
The vet said that my type of cat (she was born with a short tail) is genetically predisposed to bowel and urine issues. She's had something similar happen before (the soft poop), but she resumed normal pooping after where this time she didn't. She suggested I try a food and medicine first, before moving on to x-rays and the like . She prescribed Hill's Prescription Diet i/d and a tube of probiocin oral gel.
From looking at the ingredients list on the bag, the food doesn't look very good (see info below). Is there a good alternative food? I currently feed Natural Balance Ultra Premium dry cat food.
Ingredients for i/d:
Chicken By-Product Meal, Brewers Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Ground Whole Grain Corn, Pork Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Soy Fiber, Dried Egg Product, Dried Chicken, Potassium Chloride, Chicken Liver Flavor, Calcium Sulfate, Choline Chloride, Iodized Salt, Natural Flavor, preserved with BHT and BHA, minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Taurine, vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement).
