Hello, my 10 year old little girl named Almond had been having chronic upper respiratory congestion x 4 months. I took her to the Emergency Vet in May and she was diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection treated with antibiotics. Her symptoms improved and I took her to her regular vet a week later for a follow up. Her blood work showed elevated white blood cells. Her vet prescribed a different antibiotic. No improvement, she was put under anesthesia for a nasal flush and skull X-rays, nothing abnormal visualized on X-ray. She was given Cerenia nasal drops and yet a different antibiotic. Brought her back to the vet for a full dental/exam and cleaning with more X-rays. No abnormalities. She was started on a steroid injection and her symptoms improved tremendously. The shot lasted 2 weeks and symptoms returned. We changed her to a daily steroid, despite the negative X-rays her vet was highly suspicious of a nasal mass. I searched online for months, hoping and praying it was Chronic Rhinitis. The steroids were no longer helping her so I made an appointment with an integrative vet who examined her and she was given acupuncture. Almond was scheduled to see an internal medicine specialist in October for CT. The past week she has been having difficulty eating. The vet prescribed Mirtazapine with no improvement. I began syringe feeding her. I just knew something was wrong. On Wednesday evening she was showing obvious discomfort. The integrative vet prescribed Gabapentin for pain. I promised Almond she would never suffer. I took her to her regular vet yesterday morning. The mass had destroyed her sinuses. I made the decision to let her go. I held her paw the entire time and softly spoke to her. I told her how loved she is. I held her after she was gone and gave her a kiss and said I was sorry I couldn’t save her. My heart is broken. I can’t believe she is gone. This morning she didn’t follow me to the kitchen. Her absence, the silence. I miss her so much. I love you so much Almond. Yesterday you took a piece of my heart with you.
