First, a little history. "Sky" landed at our nearby shelter as a six and half year old spayed female, following the death of her former caretaker. She spent a month there -- grumpy, depressed and hiding in the back of her cage. MommyCat and I couldn't stand to see her like that any more, so we brought her home. After her checkup and some dental work, we integrated her with our others, or at least tried to. She was fine with the two of us, even choosing to sleep under my arm every night, but she would snort like a bull at any cat who approached her.
We thought she would be a loner forever. I don't know what happened this past winter -- maybe it was a bout of furnace problems and some cold nights -- but without any fuss she decided to join in the kind of cat cuddling she saw among the others! We caught this unusual sight on one of the recliners:
Alison is the lighter cat on top, Charlie is the fully brown tabby on the bottom.
After this breakthrough, there was no stopping her! It made no difference if a cat bed was occupied -- that cat was likely to end up wearing an Alison Blanket:
She would even pair up with our shy and chubby Tiger for a Brown Tabby Mashup:
It didn't matter if a bed was big enough. Here's Tiger and Alison playing 35 lbs. of Brown Tabby in a 15 lb. bed, while Charlie wonders if he's next:
This started a trend, as even Tiger and Charlie started piling in together:
