(sorry, kind of a long rant)
OK, so I have already got an earful from both parents(especially my dad) who offered the consolation: "Good one, Dumba$$"(he emulates Red from That 70's show)
All day it has been unusually hot in the house, it hasnt helped that I have been running around doing last minute cleaning and packing.
Around an hour go, I went outside then came back in and realized it was hotter in than out. Looked at the thermostat, and by golly if it wasnt as high as it would go (95*+).
I called the housing office on Base to have someone come fix it... the guy arrived, then led me out back to the actual unit... where he showed me the icicles(ICICLES---IT IS 100* OUTSIDE) hanging off the pipes all the way from the unit into the vent part(dont know what it is called- it is where the air filter goes). He removed the air filter and underneath there is about 3 inches of ice!!!!!!!!!
He told me to wait at least three hours, then come back outside and check to see if ALL of the ice has melted. And when it is all gone, I can turn the air back on again.
This of course, all happend at 1700hrs, the hottest part of the day, when it is over 100* outside.
He said it was because I had the temp set on 65*. I told him that is the temp I keep in on ALL year 'round, for the past 2 1/2 years.
He explained to me that these units are so old and not in the best shape, and will only cool the houses to (no more) than 20* cooler than the temp outside. So when it is this hot, he said never put the thermostat below 70*
My father, who is on his way up here to help me move back to Oklahoma, is exactly 3 hours away from the house now. How lucky is he, that he will arrive when the air is back on.
I am tempted to just go drive around so I can at least be in air conditioning in my car.
Ok, so I have heard plenty of people say 'Hey, my air conditioner froze'... but I never really knew they meant froze...AS IN ICE! They say froze and I always thought froze as in the way a computer screen freezes.
I am going to go live in an igloo.
