I'm sure this is a topic most of us pet owners think about time and time again: people abandoning their animals for "bad" reasons or no reasons at all.
I recently started a new job at a pet store and I heard that someone left two cats at the groomers, meaning they never picked them up after their appointment. The groomers were told one of the cats had kittens and even looked swollen when they took them in for their appointment. When the groomers tried to contact them via the vet, even the vet had a bad point of contact. Thankfully, where I live, we have a great no-kill shelter and cat sanctuary and that's what I think is the shining light at the end of this horrible story.
I just don't see why people would go through so much to abandon their animals. They would have had to go to their vet to make sure the cats are vaccinated and then come and drop them off at the groomers. Why not directly go to the shelter? Why make up this farce of a story that you're just pleasantly tending to your pet's grooming needs?
I feel bittersweet about this. On one hand, it's better that the cats are at the shelter than with their previous owner. On the other hand, WHY do people do this????
I recently read a post made by my animal shelter about a dog that was adopted and how the previous owner surrender the dog because they felt the dog was distracting their child from his studies... I wouldn't know how to react if I worked at the shelter and I had to listen to people's reasons for surrendering their animals.
Anyway, thanks for reading and listening. This has been bothering me for a while!
