My girlfriend and I have 5 cats.
We adopted Cobee (aka Cobalt) about 3 months ago - he is a year old and we could tell he NEEDED a play mate. So we went to the Human Society here in PHX (we adopted Cobee from the Arizona Animal Welfare League) and were told that adopting one kitten cost 65$ and if you adopted a second it cost only 75$... we were excited by this and thought bringing 2 kittens home would make both Cobee and us extremely happy. So we spent -all- day (7 hours) handling different kittens, talking, looking, etc. Then we found Snape and Sophie... a black little boy and a pure white little girl. They stole our hearts and we adopted them. We took them home and within 4 hours of playing the puffy game they were all playing. Shortly after my girlfriend's mom's cat had kittens that were ready for a home and my girlfriend REALLY wanted one so we adopted one, a black kitten that she named Baby Kitty. Then I made vet appointments for routine checks for a week later. We took them in (At this point sophie had become sick, we figured at worst it was a URI) and Snape was getting there. We were told that Cobee was fine but the babies both had Pnemonia that was on the verge of becoming Feline Lukemia... we were devastated when we were told the Vet gave them very little chance of survival even WITH the extremely expensive treatment. We called the Humane Society and was told we could take them back and they would take over care of them and give us ability to get 2 different kittens... so we did. We found and fell in love with litter mates that we named Billy and Lilly... they were black and white long haired kitties that had been abandoned and were total trash kitties. We took them home and they didnt take to Cobee at all that night but soon after liked him pretty well. Lilly got sick with an eye infection after about 3 weeks and it got really bad we took her in and were told she would need shots, medications, etc. We took her to the humane society and explained the situation - the lady was really mean about it and I felt horrible (and still do) about giving her to them to be put down (we were told that was the most humane thing, etc. by our vet) not to mention the humane society has vets look at the pets and if they think they are saveable they work on them. Anyway... we were at the humane society and we were talking to this guy, an older gentlemen, who had a female cat, 9 months old, fully vaccinated, not spayed, who was healthy as far as he knew. His wife had died the prior sunday and it was her cat, he had 2 others and they didnt care for her (hissed and attacked her - his wife kept them seperated but he couldnt because he was going to move in to a tiny 1 bedroom now that it was only him) so somehow we walked away with Jessie, a peach tabby.
We have 5 cats again and are happy, but we miss our 3 angels.
Sorry this was so long.
