This started about a month ago where I noticed my cat’s belly was pretty red. I thought it was a rash and we took her to the vet where they prescribed anti fungal medication. About two weeks later there was no improvement, so this time they gave her antibiotics and anti inflammatory shots while advising that she wears a cone. About two weeks pass and still no improvement..

Yesterday morning she appeared very lethargic and was barely eating. Her meows seemed like she was gasping for air and she had pain when I picked her up. We rush her to the vet and she’s immediately sent to an emergency room to see an internal medicine doctor. She had pale colored gums and eye lids. She hate some dinner and was walking, but clearly lethargic.

Blood test revealed her red blood count to be around 13, so they ordered a transfusion. Seems like that “rash” was internal bleeding.

They do an ultrasound and it’s revealed that her pancreas is enlarged so possibly pancreatitis, however he also mentioned that he did not see any “free floating liquid.” Not sure what that means. They also ordered a biopsy of her skin and other tests to be sent to the pathologist.

It seems his concern was what caused the pancreatitis, since it usually accompanies another chronic disorder. He mentioned the possibilities of bacterial infections, cancer, or even lupus..

Good news is that she’s eating and appears to be feeling better in the hospital. They give me updated every few hours so at least i know she's doing okay. From my understanding they have her on antibiotics to combat possible bacterial infections. Her blood count also appears to be back to normal.

I asked for a prognosis and he said “guarded” as in unknown.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I’m scared I’m going to lose her 😞

I am so sorry hugs💕 🙏🏻 For you and kitty. I have had numerous crises with my kitties, heart & kidney failures and other stuff. Mostly they made it out from hospital. But eventually whatever was causing it took them. I have never had what you are describing except with my Angie, but she turned out to have cancer and was given convenia which caused severe anemia. She had sores on her ears etc. from it. But not pancreatitis. Did your dvm do bw right away?
Years ago Tess had heart failure, she recovered and did well on meds for 3 years. But then she developed crf from lasix and then anemia. She had a transfusion from her brother and it helped. She was on epogen but then she developed liver issues and the dvm did not increase the epogen when needed.

I'm sorry you and your girl are going through this. Did you and the vet discuss possible poisoning? Any toxic plants or other toxin in the house or outside if your girl goes outside?

Was the "internal medicine doctor" a specialist? If not, I highly recommend taking your kitty to a specialist.

As the article says too "the cause of pancreatitis in cats is usually undetermined..."

How is your girl's liver and gallbladder in the bloodwork?

Welcome to TCS! :welcomesign: I'm also sorry your cat is going through this and in the hospital. Did they give you any idea when she will be able to come home? Our boy was diagnosed twice with pancreatitis but fortunately the feline specialty vet caught it right away. It's been awhile but I know they did bloodwork and an ultrasound. He was on Mirtazapine to stimulate his appetite as well as prednisolone. They recommended Cerenia but for some reason I asked the vet if I could hold off giving it to him. The reason escapes me right now but fortunately he did not have a severe case of pancreatitis and did fine on the Mirtaz and prednisolone.

Sending best wishes and special thoughts to your cat. :vibes::vibes:BTW, what's her name? Please keep us posted on her progress.
