This started about a month ago where I noticed my cat’s belly was pretty red. I thought it was a rash and we took her to the vet where they prescribed anti fungal medication. About two weeks later there was no improvement, so this time they gave her antibiotics and anti inflammatory shots while advising that she wears a cone. About two weeks pass and still no improvement..
Yesterday morning she appeared very lethargic and was barely eating. Her meows seemed like she was gasping for air and she had pain when I picked her up. We rush her to the vet and she’s immediately sent to an emergency room to see an internal medicine doctor. She had pale colored gums and eye lids. She hate some dinner and was walking, but clearly lethargic.
Blood test revealed her red blood count to be around 13, so they ordered a transfusion. Seems like that “rash” was internal bleeding.
They do an ultrasound and it’s revealed that her pancreas is enlarged so possibly pancreatitis, however he also mentioned that he did not see any “free floating liquid.” Not sure what that means. They also ordered a biopsy of her skin and other tests to be sent to the pathologist.
It seems his concern was what caused the pancreatitis, since it usually accompanies another chronic disorder. He mentioned the possibilities of bacterial infections, cancer, or even lupus..
Good news is that she’s eating and appears to be feeling better in the hospital. They give me updated every few hours so at least i know she's doing okay. From my understanding they have her on antibiotics to combat possible bacterial infections. Her blood count also appears to be back to normal.
I asked for a prognosis and he said “guarded” as in unknown.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? I’m scared I’m going to lose her
