I have had an issue with cats clawing the gel mats that you soak in cold water. Though some did enjoy it before the rest killed the mats.
Far as tempature I have a 2 floor house and 2 ac units one in bedroom and one for livinig room. The cats will by choice go upstairs where it is 80-90 degrees. I would worry if it was a flat face cat such as a persian or exotic shorthair and on that note flat faced dogs too.
