My 2 year old cat, Cody, gags when we offer him human food.
We have multiple cats in the house and they always beg us for "nibbles" at dinner time. Cody has gagged at baked chicken, steak, cheese, yogurt, etc. BUT... after he gags, he usually eats the food.
He never gags at his cat food.
He eats normally and hasn't lost any weight.
He doesn't cough or gag at any other time.
He drinks a normal amount of water.
His litter box habits are normal.
He acts perfectly healthy.
His teeth and gums appear healthy.
It's as if he doesn't like the smell, but then he sees the other cats eat the food, and so he eats it too.
I've read that cats supposedly don't have a "gag reflex" when it comes to smell, but is it possible we have a unique situation? I've also read that gagging can indicate liver disease, or mouth/teeth issues, but he seems fine otherwise.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thank you!
