16 year old cat eating a lot and not gaining weight

My tabby JJ is about 16 years old weighs about 11 pounds and has been renal for about a year he’s getting prescription food but he’s gobbling up so much food a large can and a half a day and not gaining any weight he seems healthy otherwise but is that normal?

Has your cat been checked for hyperthyroidism? A cat that eats a lot but doesn't gain weight is often found to have this condition. That would be the first place I would start.

I would do what FeebysOwner suggested. Coincidentally, I have a 15 year old cat that's showing the same symptoms, and she's being tested for hyper-T next week. Renal disease can be tricky to manage, so a check up might be a good all-around way to see if the vet is able to find out what's going on.
