Hello, this is probably TMI, but really looking for others opinions
I have a 12 week kitten who, after he poops, has clear mucus coming from his butt. This usually occurs about 1-2 minutes after he is done in the litter box. I called the vet and they said it was not an emergency and to monitor him, however, I am still concerned. He does not have diarrhea, and is still running around playing and eating like normal. Should I take him to an emergency vet, or give him a day or two and monitor him?

Hi. I think you are safe to monitor the situation, unless the mucus is of a pale yellow-greenish color - then, I would call the vet back and tell them that. Many times clear mucus is part of a normal bowel movement, although not typically entirely separate from it. Is he leaking it, or just going back to the litter box a second time when the mucus occurs? Does he also have mucus as part of his regular bowel movement? Dietary changes can cause an abundance of mucus. So, if you have had him going through a food change, that could be part of the issue.
