little kya gets crusty ones a lot, i usually have to wipe them off the corners of her eyes once or twice a day, is that normal or are her eyes tearing too much or something?
yes, kya is 3 months old. they look like a tiny dried flakes, just outside the inside corner of her eye and yes are very easily wiped away. they arent yellow or green. they kinda remind me of a teeny scab.Originally Posted by Naturestee
What does it look like? Normal "sleep crusties," as far as I've seen, are easily removed and are often sticking just barely to an eyelash at the inside corner of the eye. My kitten Eve has a URI and her only visible symptom (other than slight lethargy for the first few days) is a tiny bit of yellow mucous smeared under her eyes. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not because she's recently washed it off.
If I remember right, your cats are all pretty young, correct? URIs aren't unusual in kittens. If you think that the "crusties" are abnormal, and it does sound like a bit much, then you should have a vet look at her.
that's perfectly normal for younger kittens. as old as 10 months are still learning to clean themsleves and will sometimes miss the face area. as long as it's a dried darker color and just flakes off i wouldn't worry too much. when it goes green/white/yellow/red, wet and gooey then you need to seek the vets.Originally Posted by jaycee

if it's strictly in one eye i would suggest taking him in to be seen. better safe than sorry! they will most likely giv eyou some drops or some antibioticsor maybe nothing! clean the eye with sterile cotton wool balls or pads with plain warm water. not saline or anything else just water. wipe from the outside in along the bottom lid. see if it clears up in a day or two if not take him in.Originally Posted by KaraBear
I've noticed this week my Jasper has a lot of brownish eye boogers going on in his right eye. I have to wipe them about twice a day. He is about 2 1/2 years old. Should I be concerned?
No, its more of a brown flaky thing in the corner of his eye. I wiped it out 3 times today.Originally Posted by jaycee
