Hi,

I've posted on this forum a couple months ago because I got an underweight kitten from a bengel breeder. Apollo has been doing really well, and he is a healthier weight. He is still small for his age (about 4-5 months), but he is healthy otherwise. Anyways, my question is as follows. He is very attached to my male cat, Kit, and follows him everywhere. I've noticed that when they are sitting together, Apollo suckles on Kit's front paw...the part that looks like a little finger (above the paw actually). Kit doesn't seem to mind it at all, but I was wondering if this was okay? Apollo doesn't seem to be interested in suckling anywhere else (as I know sucking on the testicles is a bad thing), and he doesn't suckle on himself. Should I allow this behavior to continue, or try to break him out of it? Thanks for your help.

Awww.....if Kit accepts him sucking...I don't think there is anything wrong. If however Apollo suckles inappropriate places OR if there comes a time that Kit isn't so welcoming of this behavior..you may want to get Apollo a stuffed animal.

Okay, thanks. I asked the vet last time I took Apollo in, she said that it was fine, just that Apollo might develop a behavior to suck on everything. So far it's only that one area. Thanks again

I have a male cat who suckles on himself....when he is held, he will lean back into my arms and suck on his chest! He is about 2 years old and has done this as he got older, not when he was young.
Strange.

Our kittens suckle on a faux-fur blanket we have, and our grown cat Mew Mew, for the first 5 years of her life, licked a stuffed bear ALL the time.

Haha I'm glad to hear my kitten isn't the only one who likes to suckle. It's kind of cute though, especially since he doen't do it to me
. I'm just glad that my other cat doesn't mind. Strangely enough, Kit doesn't tolerate new kittens too well (when my mom got a kitten to keep herself company after I went off to college my cat started pulling his fur out), but he has taken a liking to Apollo. I couldn't have asked for a greater match for me and Kit. I'll try to take a picture for you guys if I can.

My cat Rhapsody, suckles on my male dog He has a nipple or two longer than the others.

Rhaps just had kittens (they are 3 weeks now) Buddy wants so bad to get to them, I always chuckle that it would be funny if all 6 of them were suckling on Buddy. That would be one for funnest home videos.

Our Callisto does it too. It's the weirdest thing. When she gets really happy she starts to suck on her tummy OR when she's been naughty and we tell her she was naughty she gets all introverted for about 6 hours and does nothing but suck on herself. She's not lost hair or anything, but it's just strange. Like hoppybun said, glad we're not the only one that has a cat that does this!
