Stoli has always been a shoulder cat. He's a lap cat and a walk-around-holding-me kinda cat. Lately on our walks (he's learned the word jacket = going outside) he's been extremely playful and curious and as we are out exploring he'll just turn around and run and jump on me and just start purring, I know it's definitely not a scared 'hold me i'm frightened' jump. Why else would he be doing this? The neighbors all this this is do adorable. I don't mind, i'm just trying to think of what he may be thinking.

I think that Stoli thinks that you are his mommy, and is looking for you to tell him he is a good boy. It also seems like you may be "rewarding" this behavior by petting and cuddling him. It sounds like you have quite the boy! I would be proud.

Stoli is being Stoli whether indoors or outdoors.

Nakita always wanted to be held, carried, be with you, on your lap, sleep with you etc. when we brought her home. She always had to be 2 inches from me at all times. If I closed a door, she would start scratching at it since she couldn't be separated from me. Sounds like Stoli is the same and enjoying the comfort you bring to him.

I still remember when Nakita started to become more independent and I remember the first night she didn't sleep with me. I was so sad because I loved our close bond but knew she was growing up. Then she would start to spend more time on her own and didn't 'need' me as much. She's still close to me but not the same when she was a kitten. Enjoy the young years with Stoli since they grow up way too fast!

It reminds me of something human children will do sometimes. Depending on the age and all, if they are doing something that makes them very happy and Mom or Dad is around, they will run up and hug or just hold hands. They just want to share their happiness with those they love the most.

I tried to walk my former stray cat a few times. It didn't really work out, partially because all she wanted to do while we were "walking" was roll on the ground, purr, and get pet. I think part of it is that, when you've got a cat on a leash, you are giving that cat your whole attention. In the case of my cat Jane and in the case of Stoli, I think these cats really like being the center of attention. So they purr and shower you with love. Also, Stoli probably really likes going outside, so he's happy that you've taken him outside. Jumping on you shows his love!

One of my problems with "walking" the cat was that Jane wanted to do this for a very long time, I didn't have the patience, but if I took her inside, she got in a terrible mood and started beating up on her kittens.

But, since the walking routine you've got going works for both Stoli and you, that's wonderful!

There are certainly cuddly adult cats around; no reason to borrow trouble and worry about whether Stoli will change.

Oh well, when we lived in th UK, we also had a dog and 2 of my mogs always came walking with us. Pepsi Princess didnt much like the long wet grass
and she would jump on my shoulder and stay there for the rest of the walk

she was very good at balancing herself (and of course I thought it was very cute
)
