We adopted Stella last Thanksgiving weekend. Several weeks ago she started peeing on the dog bed in the family room. I immediately took her to the vet to eliminate any possible medical issue and she of course was fine. We have two other cats and 2 litter boxes, which are cleaned at least once a day. I use non-scented scoopable litter. There's nothing to indicate that she's peeing anywhere else in the house and she's using the box to poop.

The dog bed is the Kirkland brand from Costco and is filled with stuffing and cedar bark; I'm wondering if there's something in the cedar that's attracting her. I've replaced the first bed she peed on last month; however she's peed again on the new bed. So before I buy another bed, is it possible that she's attracted to the smell of the cedar? Thanx

They do make cedar chip cat litter. It is a possibility. I would add another litter box or 2, tho. With 3 cats they each need their own space. She may be being intimidated to go to the litter box, pooing there, so she can cover.

My 3 month old kitten has done the same thing a couple times. I heard a while back that cats sometimes pee on things that are soft, like dog beds and our own beds. Im hesitant to let him hangout in my bedroom for this reason.

Cats typically only pee on their human's bed if they are very stressed or if they are ill. However, I remember reading that it is not uncommon for healthy cats to pee on dog beds. I did a search to find where I read this, but couldn't find it again. I'll keep hunting to see what I can find.
