thats a good way of doing it!

Animation shop is for animation, as long as you download them from their actual sources for the 30day trial, they are fine, if you are downloading them from a peer to peer like Limewire, Napster etc, it is illegal and you really don't know what you are getting.

Photoshop CS can be downloaded here
Photoshop Elements here
PaintShop Pro here

They all allow a 30 day trial, as well, I came across someone on another board who had a really nice siggy and used this, Photo POS Pro which is only $45 new from the manufacturer and also has a 30 day trial

Oh and I just use my work address, we get so much junk there it doesn't matter

Animation shop usually comes bundled with the full version of Paint Shop Pro.

Honestly, I don't recommend downloading a free trial version if you're not even considering buying the software. A month isn't much time to learn how to use the program, get good & make lots of signatures. Plus if you do nail it in a month's time, then you going to want to continue using the program beyond that, so make sure that it's something you can afford.
Just my

The trial downloads are meant to see if you like it before you buy it.
I wouldn't bother with Photoshop CS2. It's the best program around, but the cheapest you can purchase it is with an academic license & I believe that runs about $300.

I think the newest versions of Paint Shop Pro & Photoshop Elements run about $100. Older versions will cost less & are still good. I use Paint Shop Pro v.8, which I purchased on ebay for about $24 (full retail, sealed in box).

The Gimp is another program that some people use which I is free (I believe).

Photo Impact is also used for graphics & Microsoft Picture It.

I started off doing graphics with Microsoft Picture It. It's an ok program, but it doesn't do nearly as much as PSP.

I agree with Christine, if you are not considering buying the software, the trial doesn't do much for you, it will take you that long to get to know the menus and features.

PSP have a special on a new version from their website for $79 US and as Christine said you can get new or used versions cheaply on ebay

If you search for GIMP (I know Hope knows a little about it and has mentioned it previously) it isn't user friendly at all, but it is free.

And to be honest, reegardless of how expensive the program is, it will only ever be as good as you make it, you need to take the time to learn it, Christine, Hope, Karen, Kelly and I all use different programs, but given the same picture and brushes we could make the exact same graphic

A thought for people who want some half-decent software, without paying the earth for it. Check out these things...

Old versions of lots of software are available for download here. Often they are free.

Here's another that's similar. And another.

If you Google "old versions", you'll get a whole bunch of similar hits.

Serif software has a bunch of graphics products, and makes a practice of offering their older versions free (or cheap), to get you interested. Go here.

I haven't used any of these products enough to be able vouch for them, or offer to hold anyone's hand while they learn, but you might find something useful at one of these sites. You might want to have a look at ACDSee. I have an early version of that, which I'm still using for organization/file management and very basic editing, such as resizing and minor colour adjustments. I have no idea what bells and whistles have been added since then, so I really don't know if it is a suitable product, but I do know that what it does it does well.

There you go, FWIW.

Actually, I use Photoshop 7.0. I can't afford CS2 at this time, but I was looking for used versions of 7.0 and it was still going for over $300. I used to have Photoshop 6, and in fact I still have the CD of it, but I don't have it on my computer. I also use PSP 8, but I don't like it as much as Photoshop. Still it's a great program, and is WAY more advanced that earlier versions of PSP. Actually, I should download some brushes for PSP 8, and get to know the program better. I love some things about it. I LOVE the PSP tubes. I've gotten to the point where I'll take a PSP tube and save it as a PSD file and use it in Photoshop. The coolest thing about PSP, is that you can open up Photoshop files in the program, and you can save PSP files as Photoshop PSD files.

I think you have more control with Photoshop, though and that's why my program of choice is Photoshop.

As far as The Gimp goes: It's a cool program, but it is REALLY hard. I've been on a few graphic message boards, and most of the real geeks use The Gimp. They swear by it. Basically, it works the same way as Photoshop and PSP, but it's just not as user friendly as either of them, and it really sucks up the RAM on the computer. However, if you want a full featured graphics program for free, then The Gimp is the way to go. Maybe if I hadn't already known Photoshop and PSP first, before I'd tried The Gimp, I would have liked it better, because I wouldn't know any other way to do it.

I'm sorry, I'm making this a book, but I would suggest if you don't want to spend a lot of money, and you want HUGE graphics suite with everything from a program like Photoshop and PSP, to a vector program, to a 3D program, I would suggest Micrografx Suite. I purchased that suite a few years ago, before I knew Photoshop or PSP. It was only $45 at Best Buy, and I REALLY learned a lot on it. It has clip art, and in fact it's just LOADED with features. Really worth the money. I still use the Micrografx Designer for Vector images. Micrografx Designer is kind of like the poor mans Illustrator, and Micrografx Picture Publisher is kind of like the poors mans Photoshop. All I can say, is that if you want to learn graphics, and you don't want to spend a lot of money, I would check out the Micrografx suite, which includes all of those programs. It comes with 4 discs and it's very easy to use. Once you get used to that, then you can really go to Photoshop, or PSP and understand what you're doing, and like I said, the Vector program is AWESOME and loads of fun.

Several members have posted links to different programs, it is up to you to research them and see what suits you better. The links are there just click and read, the download trial links are very clearly labelled on each page.

This is no different than downloading anything off the Internet. You would download it the same way.
