Back to the old question....what do you think?

If a massive tree falls out in the woods with no one anywhere around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Is this a trick question???

I think that it makes a sound no matter if someone hears it or not

Well technically, the tree falling will produce sound waves, but if no one with ears is around to turn those waves into actual sound, the no, it doesn't make a noise. Sound is something the inner workings of our ears turn sound waves into

Well, yeah animals have ears too, the original post didn't specify that it had to be a person
That's why I said "no one with ears"

Basically nothing "makes a noise", it produces sound waves that our (or an animal's
) ears turn into "noise" so if no one is around to "hear" the sound waves, there is no noise. Does that make more sense?
