Many on the board will remember when we rescued Frankie, realizing that she was on her last legs. She was found to be healthy but starved, her initial weight with us was under 6 lb.

Her one "maybe" health issue was that her kidney values were slightly elevated and urine a bit dilute. So, every few months we've been checking her values to track was she's doing (they improved last time).

Took her in today (and...we finally solved what has been bothering the heck out of me. NO red lynx point should have a freckled nose and striped whiskers, but i could not find any cream toes, any variation in color. DH found it last night, both her front paw pads are freckled and if you look darn close, the coloration on one front paw has a lighter area. So, she is what I couldn't prove...a red tortie lynx
Who now weighs...13+ lbs. GULP.
Hopefully, her values will come back good, as they did last time.

Tyler was also taken in today, checking to see status of his T4, hoping this last and final increase in medication works, if not, we can try another med or discuss doing the radioactive iodine tx (something I'm not in favor of to be honest). He is still not eating, so next we do a dental, hoping he can handle being under anesthesia.

Alix, sweet alix, has a growth on her nose - that is coming off. (will schedule after we get labs back) She was labeled - "quite feisty" at the vets. They were unable to do her cystocentesis (she is turning 13 next month, so I wanted a senior panel and T4 done), and was brought back to us scruffed. A first for any of my cats in the almost 11 years of going to this vet practice. I did warn them she can be quite mouthy and stubborn

Her sister, Ophelia, probably has hypert - and was also taken in for a senior panel and T4. I hope the results give us an answer...expect to have them by Tuesday.

It was quite the vet visit!

Sheesh! I though my Ophelia was a stinker at the vets, but I think your Alix topped her.
It sounds like all poor starving cats on their last legs aught to find their way to you....Frankie sounds like she is doing well.
Hopefully, all the labs come back good.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I though sharky was going to take in Frankie? I may be off, but I don't remember hearing more about that....

Thanks...I hope all labs do too, though I expect to confirm hypert with Ophelia.

I did post that after caring for Frankie for as long as we did, and going through her surgery with her (spay hernia we found when they went in), and learning her kidney values were off..well, we were in love, she'd had serious trust issues that were resolving with Patrick (RB) being the sweetie he was, and with our care. I just couldn't move her again. She was following me everywhere (in the house, my cats are indoor only), I had clearly become "her" person

Sharky understood thankfully

If you end up having to do radioiodine treatment, which facility would you have it done at? NWVS in Clackamas, Feline Thyroid Clinic in Springfield, or another facility?

No idea (though I think there is a facility here in WA) , I really can't conceive of doing this. Tyler is totally not eating, I have to feed him completely. I just can't see him gone for the 5 days (if I recall from researching this a few years ago). I really, really, really want to hear this last doseage increase worked.

That was quite a vet visit, and the news about Frankie is wonderful, i.e., that she has doubled her weight. I just hope Tyler's health problems are resolved soon. Good luck to Alix and Ophelia, too.

Pat...all of your kitties are fortunate that they are under your loving and knowledgeable care.
Unselfishly, you always choose the care that is best for each individual kitty.
That is not an easy task sometimes.

They continue to be in my most positive thoughts & prayers.

Thank guys..time to put Miss Frankie (oh she of the iron paw, whose multiple nicknames include "marshmallow", "little fiend" and "red devil") on an exercise program...this is too much for her. She needs to lose at least 2 lbs. if not 3.

Eek!

I should do the same with my big boy Dexter.
He needs to lose a couple if pounds.

I cannot figure how to resist the "I'm hungry" stare.
He is relentless.

Good luck with Miss Frankie's slim down program.

Thank you...she's trying to catch up to Miss Alix, who we found out is almost 14 lbs. and trust me, she shouldn't be anywhere close!

Time to design some chase toys instead of the lick, roll and nap on toys

Alix's T4 is normal, her cholesterol is a bit high, but she is cleared for her surgery to remove this growth under her eye (on upper nose).

Ophelia - normal T4, we are now going to do a free T4 to further check, something is causing her to not eat well and to lose weight even when she is eating well.

Frankie - bun above high normal, creatinine upper end high normal, they forgot to check urine dilution, so she's going in for a cysto, to get a sample and check. She's really too young for this

Tyler - YAY!!!!!!!!!! He finally has a normal T4, so this most recent increase in his medication has worked. He is cleared to have his dental.

and that's my report

Pat, I just saw this. I haven't been home- been in Northern California helping out my folks who only have dial-up ugh!

What an ordeal for you and your cats. It is a good thing you are a strong person and capable when it comes to the care of senior cats. I hope Tyler's values keep increasing and he becomes as strong as those who care for him.

Good luck with Frankie as well.
