I adopted Scratch Fury Destroyer of Worlds about two months ago from a local rescue. Since I've brought him home he's been a fine good natured kitty. Yet, he has had some hip issues. The vet says that it could be one of two things, either his hip was broken when he was a kitten and it never healed right, or its hip dysplasia. We are going to take him in for a series of X-Rays soon, so we will know for sure. He isn't in pain, but I just want a happy healthy kitty. Can some one on the forums give some advice! I a little scared, because I don't want him to be stressed out.

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/hip_dysplasia.html Here's information about hip dysplasia, but it pertains mainly to dogs. Hopefully somebody will read this thread who has experience with it in felines.
Naturally, any kind of veterinary examination or treatment is going to cause stress, but you could make it easier by making sure that Scratch is accustomed to his carrier by offering it as a place to sleep and/or play, getting him used to short rides in the car that don't end at the vet's office, or perhaps trying Feliway or Rescue Remedy (Bach's Floral Remedies). The most important thing is not to get too stressed out yourself, as that's "contagious", and will upset him all the more. I'm sending

Thank you... we are going to need it. I've decided that I'm going to get a second opinion as well. It's not that my vet isn't wonderful, she is, I just want to explore all possible avenues before we decide on anything. I made an appointment with a holistic vet in the area to see if we can do some alternative therapy first.

Good luck! Keep us posted on Scratch's results. If it is hip dysplasia- ask your doctor about Glucosamine to help relieve joint inflamation-it works very well.
