Joey used to get a 'funny' expression on his face if you lightly scratched his back just ahead of his tail root. But we noticed the sensitivity spreading up the middle of his back last year. It seemed to get much better after a bath.

But lately it is moving up his back again and a bath doesn't seem to have had any effect on retarding the advance.

He never leaves the house and no other animals have been it. But could the problem be fleas anyway? Or something else.

When I say he acts funny when you touch his back I mean he sqinches up his face and twists his head at around, up and down and acts like it hurts...but he doesn't whine or bite.

Any ideas?

Mine do the same. It doesn't hurt them, they would let you know it it hurts! I know mine do the whole "twisting their head moving it up and down" when I scratch the base of their tail. I don't know WHY they make all of those funny faces. Have you ever done the same thing to a dog? Some dogs will pick up and shake on of their back legs if you scratch them in the right place on the back. I also have no idea why the area that make him do this has seemed to 'grow.'

I have faith that the others can help you further.
