Geesh.......I HATE these things!! I was just vacuming and found one(DEAD, thank goodness) but they still disgust me!!
Does anyone else have them? I am going to try and find a pic of them if I can. From what I know, they arent dangerous, but can bite...and so that makes me so worried for the kids sake!!

I have only seen one since living in Arkansas, but when we lived in San Antonio, it was an everday occurrance. We lived next to an open field in the suburbs and they were always in the house. My dad put on his pants one morning and was stung by two. I know that scorpions aren't lethal, but his thigh swelled to twice its normal size. I have a healthy respect for them (i.e. if they don't come near me, they don't have to die.
)

Not me! LOL...in fact the other day my son and I were outside and he saw one, and he HATES them, so he burned it...lol. It was kinda mean, but yet he didnt want it biting him either.

I've seen one in my life and it was when I lived in Dayton (Ohio, southern part) we don't have them this far north.

Odd, I was hiking in New Mexico and Arizona and never saw one. Trust me, I was looking.

why would he go out of his way just to kill it? And burning it? Seriously, you think it's funny that your kid likes burning insects to death? They won't bite if you leave them alone.

Oh I hate those things, we had those when we lived up in wine country in Temecula, and tarantulas, and snakes I don't like anything like that, you could be driving down the road and see them fuzzy uglies crossing the road half a block from where they were. Makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck, I would just scream even if I was in the cat...

No I wasnt laughing because he killed it. I was laughing because hes afraid of them, like they are some monster or something. I didnt like the fact that he killed it. Please dont go thinking my son is going to grow up to be a murderer or something. Its just a bug....and a nasty one at that!

I've never seen a scorpion at all.. besides on tv and stuff. If I have, I might have when I was younger, and visiting relatives in Texas.

I think the only one I've seen was in 'Honey I Shrunk the Kids.' If one ever came near me I'd grow wings and fly myself right out of ther! Yuck!

Ugh I've never seen one around here, but my uncle tells me he sees them all the time in Miami. So now I've been keeping my eyes peeled since I'm not too far from Miami.

Instead we have poisonous snakes, poisonous spiders and fire ants (from which I once got swarmed. No fun at all!) I think that's more than enough!

Movin' on up!
Living in Arizona, I've dealt with scorpions all of my life. One just grows up here, knowing to shake out your shoes, before putting them on.

MOST scorpions are not lethal. The tiny bark scorpion can be deadly to the very old, very young or those with heart or respiratory problems.

My son used to catch them and sell them to a jewelry maker. Scorpions embedded in Lucite are popular as bolo ties, belt buckles and paperweights - the tourists love them.

BTW: scorpions are not insects - they are arachnids (8 legs, as opposed to 6)

I'm sorry that was a knee jerk reaction. I just had an upsetting conversation with a friend about kids who kill animals. She has a pond in her back yard and these teenagers come along and slaughter the frogs.
We never used to do stuff like that and I can't understand how these kids can just be so cruel.

Aww-poor froggies! I know of people that do that around here as well. Makes me so mad....people say well "kids will be kids" , etc etc. Or "its just a frog"
Yeah, well it still has feelings!

In the WHERE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Haven't seen any in my years here. Just the usual spiders and snakes. During Desert Storm my nephew made pets of the ones in his tent. In fact, he was the one that would enter the tent first to scout for them (and other crawly things.)

Like I always say in these scorpion threads...I would DIE if I ever saw one!!

The other day I saw a giant silverfish in my bathroom, and for those of you who have seen a silverfish before, usually they are like an inch long...This one in my bathroom was like 3 inches long!!!! I almost messed my pants
I smooshed that thing so fast...
