I have become aware of a person who is overwhelmed by kittens. The person cannot afford to spay/neuter, and currently has kittens from 3 females. I believe it is likely the 3 females are pregnant again.

I have broached the subject of the person giving the kittens to me, but feel that it is nearly impossible for them to give the kittens up. I ask for an intervention from TCS members, to calm this person's mind, and help them to comprehend that the most loving thing to do is give up the kittens so I can get them vetted and adopted out. (I am affiliated with a foster agency, so I have some resources to help.)

I don't have exact ages or numbers, but believe there are 4-10 kittens involved. I know rehoming them won't solve the underlying problem, but it will save them. I hope and pray that in the next 2-3 weeks, I will be given these animals voluntarily. And that they will be tame.

Please pray for this situation as I reach out to someone who simply wants what is best for the kittens. Help me to say the right things. I have offered free food in exchange for the kittens. And photos of the kittens after I get them. If anyone has any insight that might help convince the owner, I would appreciate it!

Thanks in advance! From Becky!

Becky I wish there were some advice I could give you, but I can think of nothing really useful. Just sending good thoughts and hoping that this situation works out best for everyone involved.

Is there any way you can work with getting the mum cats spayed? REhomign the kittens is a good idea, but spaying the mums (and then the kittens when they are old enough) will stop any more being produced, and then she might be able to cope with some of them.

So far I have been unsuccessful. My rescue will not simply pay for the spays/neuters, and since I only foster for them, and don't help with the fundraising...I am trusting their judgement in this case. They did help another friend of mine who found a preggers cat get the Mom spayed, and adopted out her kittens. But just to pay for someone to speuter their own pets...I have a feeling they would run out of money real quick if they started offering that!

I will keep working on the speuter issue, but for now I'm focused on the kittens. I did offer (several months ago) the owner to take the preggers cats so I would foster them, and promised to return the adult cats after spaying them and catching them up on their shots. I would have adopted out the kittens. That offer was refused.

Certain people have limitations, and though they are based on the love of the cats, they end up harming the animals in their care. While I never felt there was a chance that I could get the preggers animals away from the owner so I could foster them through their pregnancies, I do think there is a chance I will get the kittens. The fear on the original owners side seems to be that the kittens will not find good homes. But with the resources of my foster agency, I have a great system for finding good homes for the kittens. (Starting with charging $100 each! LOL!)

Yeah, it does seem like it would have prevented this. But I have been fostering for 2-1/2 years, and the rest of them have been running the foster agency for many years, so I have to trust their judgement.

Today is the day, so I hope and pray that I get the kitties today. Either way, I will give her some kitten food, with the promise of more as a reward for giving up the kittens.

Thanks to all who have posted, and those who are with me in spirit, but haven't posted!

Bad news. She won't give up a single kitten. She admits that she has 9 kittens. One passed away. Plus there are 3 cats who could potentially be pregnant. She says if the females are preggers, she will let me foster them and adopt out the kittens. I promised to return the Mom cats to her spayed.

I'm so sad. Poor little babies. She does love them, but cannot provide for all their vet needs. I still hold hope that something may change, and she will give up the kittens!

Got everything crossed for them. Fingers crossed for the next three, I hope they can be spayed. Good on you for caring.

Any updates?? I am adding {{{prayers and vibes}}} that the original owner has a change of heart (for the better) and lets you have the kittens as well as the pregnant moms. RIP, little kitten who died.

That is a tough situation but I really admire you trying to help these cats/kittens.

Could you counsel her/him and maybe convince to apply for financial help with speauters through www.spayusa.org orwww.lovethatcat.com. I did this for a person I knew on another forum who found herself with 5 kittens that she found and rescued and she was able to get each spay/neuter done for $5 plus $5 for a rabies vaccine. It couldn't hurt to try.

Have you gone over the health benefits of spaying and neutering (I'm sure you have).

Would she maybe be open to being included in the application process for the kittens being adopted - maybe that would convince her? You know, then she would have some say in the homes they go to.

I have found funding for the spay and neuters of the 4 intact adults to start with. With agreements to spay/neuter the kittens, too, when additional funds are available. I WILL keep you updated as details become available. Thanks so much, TCS. This would not have happened without your help!

On Monday, July 31, a male (Tigger, 3y/o brown tabby), and 2 females (Pooh, 2 y/o dark brown tabby) and (Roo, 1 y/o silver brown tabby) will go to be speutered. Then Tuesday, 1 female (Eeyore, 1 y/o brown tabby) and 1 male (Tiger, 3 y/o deep brown tabby) will be speutered.

This leaves a calico (Piglet) who is pregnant, another female (Kanga) who is at another house and not pregnant. Also 9 kittens.

Tiger ran out of the house unexpectedly a week ago. These are inside only cats, but I'm sure being housed away from so many intact females had him wild, and he did escape. Prayers she catches him in time to go be neutered Tuesday.

Please continue to pray that these 5 intact adults get speutered. And that the owner will turn Piglet over to me to foster through her delivery. (I will keep the kittens, she gets Piglet back when the kittens are weaned.) And that all 9 kittens and Kanga get speutered.

What a mess. If there is anyone out there going through this yourself...please please please get your kitties speutered! Call any and all agencies and rescues, and don't give up until you get help!
