My neighbor, a lonely older guy, came by for a visit last night while his wife was out. He knows I have cats, but doesn't usually show much interest in them, or vice versa. Of course, they all went into hiding when he rang the doorbell, but Miss Nosypants Gracie soon ventured out. As soon as he saw her Jim asked, "What's that one's name?" I said, "That's Gracie." Jim, who's a little hard of hearing, said, "Crazy? What kind of name is that for cat?" I had to repeat her name several times for him to realize it's not Crazy. After thinking about it, I realized the name Crazy does kind of suit her.

So, does anybody think I should change Gracie's name?

Can you imagine making an appointment at the vet for a cat named Crazy? I bet they would charge more!

No, don't change her name, there will always be something against every name if you think hard enough! I nearly changed my daughter's name (Faith)when she went to school as she came home crying one day saying the children were calling her bad things. It was a French school (the French can't pronounce 'th' very well) and when I investigated I found she was being called 'Fesse', which means 'bottom' or 'buttock'. But she lived it down and now loves her name. I think Gracie is a lovely name and if she is used to it, keep it.

Try making a vet appointment for Scratch Fury Destroyer of Worlds. Then when he comes in he tries to hide from the vet. You should name her what suites her or you.

I like the name Gracie too! It's very pretty, and elegant... I had to laugh, imagine what that man musta been thinkin?
We tease LuckyGirl and call her Lucky Looneytunes when she runs through the house acting like a nut! I think it's cute how you call her Miss Nosy Pants!
I refer to mine as Captain Under Foot, cause she is only happy if she is right under your foot and you almost fall from trying to not step on her!

I wouldn't bother, because there will always be people who mishear or misunderstand. Our last cat was a former feral, whom I referred to as "the stray cat" when we were trying to tame him. When I finally managed to get him to a vet, the receptionist "had" to have a name. I hadn't named him, because he was so independent. I muttered something about a "stray cat", and that's what she wrote down as his name, so that it was (she understood English, but wrote it "Straycat"). I usually called him "Big Boy, Baby, or Sweetie", anyway. My in-laws don't speak any English, and have a horrible time pronouncing "Jamie". It usually comes out as "Gemmy" or "Jimmy", but that doesn't seem to bother him.
