About a week ago, I was getting ready to go to bed. I went outside and called my cat "Bolitas". He didn't come, so I went to the cupboard and got his treats. I shook his treats and he came running in.

I bent down to drop a treat on the floor, and to my HORROR, saw that Bolitas had a LIVE bat in his mouth!!!!! I screamed and my husband came running into the kitchen as I was running out.

Of course, Bolitas followed me into the living room. I had to think fast before he let the bat out of his mouth. There was a basket of laundry just to the right of me, so I grabbed the first thing that I got my hands on (a sheet), and threw it over the cat.

Luckily, he backed out from under the sheet, and did not have the bat in his mouth anymore. So, my husband grabbed a shoe box and somehow got the bat into it and released it outside. It really was a LLLLLOOOOOOOTTTTT more stressfull than it sounds

I have heard of cats bringing mice and birds into the house, but a BAT??

I don't think that I will ever fully get over it

How scary !! One of my cats caught a swallow or housemartin, couldnt belive it, these birds are so fast. Anyway she brought in in as usual, for a gift ! I managed to wrestle it from her, like you, got it into a shoe box, put the lid on and left it for about 1hr or so, to let it calm down, poor thing. Then took the box outside, opened the lid and away it flew. Awh, nice ending.

wow, a bat, thats insane, those things are lightning fast. i would call your vet tho, because bats are BIG on carrying RABIES and other diseases, unless your way into the county, then you would be fine, city bats are the bad ones.

OMG! How scary!!! Great job with your quick thinking...I think I would have freaked out so bad and ran out of the house screaming my head off waking all the neighbors within a mile radius. LOL

Your cat is up to date on his rabies shots right?

If my husband hadn't been home, I WOULD have run out of the house screaming. After throwing the sheet over the bat, I had NOTHING else to do with the whole situation

Yes, the cat is up to date on all of his shots, and I called the vet the next day and he said that everything should be fine....Thank you
