Why do people leave their dogs in their cars when it is like 30 degrees outside?? I get so mad
The poor little dog just suffocating in the car...
What is wrong with people...don't they hear of the stories when dogs die in cars in the summer?

(for us Americans 30 degrees celcius is like 90 degrees F).

Anyhoo, yes it annoys me too. Even if they just leave the window "cracked" just a little bit. That's the part that I feel wrose for the dog for. Everytime I see one their nose is practically coming out the window trying to get air!

IMO, if you plan on running errands, leave the dog at home!

I think thats horrible too!

Usually if I'm back at home with my family and we end up taking our little dog with us, and we have to go into a store, one of us stays in the car with the dog with the car turned on and the air on!

I just think its wrong - and don't even get me started on the people who leave their children in the cars when its that hot!

That is animal abuse/neglect...they shouldn't even own animals.

I hate it when people do that....in fact we did something about this one time:

One time when me and my husbands brother's were leaving a resturant, we heard a yelping sound. I actually didn't know what it was, but I saw a dog out of the corner of my eye. I was horrified to see what had happened when we approached the truck.....whoever the owner was had left the dog in the front seat of the truck and left the back sliding window open...well the dog was so hot that he climbed out the window and tried to jump off the truck...well the poor thing got caught and was dangling there with his chain wrapped around his neck...when I noticed the dog strangling himself, I ran over to the truck and undid the poor dog....he was so dehydrated that we went inside the resturant and got him some water...we tried to find the owners but they were obviously inside somewhere...so we took the dog because we didn't want him to do it again and told the resturant to have the owners call us to find out where the dog was....sure enough about an hour later the lady called us frantically ...she was young and this was her first dog ever....we were sooo angry but when we met with her we made sure to tell her what happened and never to leave a dog in her car again..... if the lady didn't seem so sincere I wouldn't have given the dog back, but it was an honest mistake and I could tell that she would never do it again.

I don't think it is ever acceptable unless there is someone in the car with the dog with the AC on...Seriously, yesterday me and BF went to Canadian Tire, and I wanted to stay in the car because I didn't feel like going in...His car doesn't have AC though, so I couldn't even stand being in the car while he went inside for like 5 minutes. Imagine having fur all over your body and having to stay in the car. I don't care if the window is open, It is WRONG

in a pile of open toed shoes!
My parents bring our tiny little pom everywhere... most places let you bring a small dog in if it's carried, as long as they don't sell food (like a grocery store or a resturant). And if they remember "ooops, we need milk" my dad stays in the car with the air conditioner on for him. But then again, this is the dog who gets escorted out to pee with an umbrella or he won't go out at all!

Man that is one thing that makes me so mad
I think if you need to run an errand and its 90 degrees outside, just leave the dog at home. And if you cant seem to do that, then leave the a/c on for him while your in the store(or wherever) Just this past Sat night, my mom and I went out for a drink, and when we were leaving,we saw 2 dogs inside a truck(windows barely cracked) no it wasnt that hot out, but why on earth would you take your dogs to a bar, when you know you will be in there for a long time! Ugh, people are just so stupid sometimes!!

It doesn't even need to be that hot - temps in the 70s-80s (20-30 C) can cause problems. A local tv station did a test where they put a car in the parking lot and cracked the windows. Within 5 minutes, the temperature was over 100 F (37C). 10 minutes 120F (48C).

It's actually illegal in some places to leave your dog unattended in a car.

I grew up in AZ and I know it was there. I would call the police if I saw something like that. It's inhumane. What would you do if someone left their child in a car with no AC running and just a cracked window?

Actually in my hometown someone accidentally killed two kids that way, and it was just standard Ohio summer temps... not like 100s or anything. She went into grocery shop and came out and her two young boys were dead, in the car.
I saw an infomercial last night for this thing that is supposed to cool off your car (not so you can keep pets in it, just so that it doesn't burn you when you sit down) that said a car in the sun in 80 degree weather heats up inside to 117 in fifteen minutes. (no idea what that is in C).

You know, the flip side of this are the people who leave their dogs in the back of the truck when it's below freezing! I know huskies and other winter dogs might be okay... but with other short haired breeds it makes me mad!!!

One time I was driving with my dad and it was about -10 or -15 degrees F out. There was some idiot with two labs in the back of his Pick up.... grrrr....

Maybe I'm acting in ignorance here, but co'mon... show some consideration for your dog!

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
That is simply animal abuse. You don't leave your children in the car like that [though, if you do, you shouldn't have children either].

This is why, when I travel across the country in a couple weeks with the cats, I won't stop at a restaurant. I'll do drive-thru's and buy enough snack foods and water. I'm not leaving them in the van [a black van at that] alone. Fill up gas, maybe buy more snacks at the station's mart, but I'm not goign to just leave them alone for more than a couple minutes... and then only in the shade.

It's illegal in NY-we have Buster's Law which makes animal cruelty of any form a felony punishable with fines & up to 2 yrs. in prison. Actually a person who sees it & doesn't report it can be held responsible, too. I learned this when I was at mall with a friend & saw a dog in a car in 90* weather looking pretty bad -I called the police -she didn't want to get involved but when the police came they told us we could've been held responsible if they found out we had seen it & didn't do anything-the owners were
when they camr out -they didn't think they had done anything wrong-needless to say the dog was removed & is in a home with caring owners

I just took the dogs to the bank & the clinic with me this morning. I had to drop off a check at the clinic & cash a check at the bank. I parked the van on main street with the air on high & left it running(small town). It took me a total of 5 minutes. Anything longer than that & I say, "sorry girls, you have to stay home". There is no way on earth I would risk their lives just for a car ride or to "look cool with my dogs". Besides, if they don't get to come, mommy feels guilty & gives them a treat before she leaves.

Ummm if I ever saw a dog in a car when it was THIRTY DEGREES (that's BOILING here in NZ! we rarely get to that temperature) I would be helping that dog - I'd ring the police, SPCA or whatever or get that dog out myself. Honestly in the Summer sometimes our hottest temp can be 27 and that's enough to make most of us sick.

I hate when they do this too. I think if they get caught, they should be made to sit in their car in the hot sun, for like a half hour with the windows just cracked, to see how they feel. When it's this hot, just leave your pets home. They are much happier there, than riding around in a hot car.

Here... or There... Hmmm
I was in the same irate mood yesterday when it was like 90 degrees here too and these idiots at the club across the street had leashed their black long haired dog to a high wall in the middle of the sun without water or any shade and the dog couldn't even lay down! I was
so angry!!! Some people are just jerks and should be.... steralized.
