The others have gained a full ounce, or more. If Runt was the one who weighed in at 4.2, she has only gained 1/2 ounce. That is a concern to me.

I have a hard time bottle feeding, but I can say the way I cut a hole in the nipple is just like I did for baby bottles, with the scissors. Just cut a small cross cut ( X ) shape. Another suggestion is to start taking the bigger babies out to play with them for 5 minutes, leaving her with Skittles for extra nursing. Often if you take all the babies except the runt, the Mom comes out, too. But if you can take out 3 kittens for a few minutes, that will leave Runt with more nipple access!

I would also start weighing Runt daily at the same time. So long as she keeps gaining a little each day, that is good news!

Yeah, Chubby could probably be taken out for 5 minutes at a time, and that would give Runts more access.

I have had several aggressive male kittens who nurse spread eagled, as if saving the two faucets next to them! Silly babies!

For the nipple, just use a pair of sharp scissors and cut a small "X". That way the milk can come out. I had a runt in one litter that I bottle fed every morning before work, and every night before bed. The rest of the time he stayed with his Momma and siblings.

IK 5 ML is a teaspoon (from giving my kids medicine. LOL) not sure how much they should eat at this age. But think you have some great suggestions. So keep trying to get a little extra with her and see if skittles will spend some "alone" time with her while you have some time with the others.

And WOW they are getting soooooooooo big!

Do we have recent pics yet? I can't wait to see their full coloring... it's so hard to tell from those pics.

What colors were the ones that didn't make it, if you don't mind me asking?

I am so glad she's doing so well... yay for Skittles and Skittlettes!!

By the way, I just started a new thread and I want an experienced meowmy's input.

here is what I found on how much they should gain

After every feed, keep a record of how much your kitten has taken. This will help you work out whether he is drinking enough throughout the day. Also, to keep track of his development, if you can, weigh him at the same time every day, using kitchen or small postage scales. A kitten that is doing well will put on between 10-20 grams a day. Keep a record of his weight so that you can identify any weight loss quickly. Your vet will also be glad that you took the time to keep these records, in case something happens down the road.

(not sure how many grams are in an oz. LOL)

this is what she should eat a day: 1 week: 32cc (not sure how many cc's in a ML)

I will look those up and get back to you.

Ok 15 grams (the middle) is about 1/2 oz. so in a week he should have gained about 3.5 oz (the middle) so sounds like he is gaining right to me since he gained what 6 oz?????? that is 170 GRAMS in a week! so 24 grams a day! sound like Runts is doing GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok and a CC is the same as a ML.
so 32 ML she should have a day but she also eats from mom. and that is 4 ML a feeding with 8 feedings.......

30 grams in an ounce (somestimes the figure used is 28.35, avoirdupois) and 1 cc= 1 mL.

That was a great idea to wake her for an extra nursing while the other babies sleep!

Remember to feed baby with its tummy down, not like a human baby cradled on its back. If you keep weighing Runts every day, and she keeps growing, you will know she is doing fine. She may be fine if you do no intervention, but then again since Skittles has so many babies, and Runts is a little smaller...if it was me, I would keep supplementing her at least a few times a day. I don't know if it is necessary every 3-4 hours, since Skittles is certainly feeding her some.

I do think it is easy for the runt of a large litter to just miss one or two feedings, and then be a little lethargic and weak, and not be strong enough to fight for a nipple.

In my last litter of 6, the runt did fine, but Zazzou fell behind in weight from having worms. One dose of worm medication corrected the other 5 kittens diarrhea, but Zazzou needed a second worming before she started doing well. She actually ended up smaller than my runt (Rafiki)! So if you have the time and inclination to be super careful with your litter, and I know you do, Jenny, I think supplementing is a great idea.
