Jingle had surgery to remove his left eye (due to glaucoma) on Tuesday. I know it was the right thing to do and he needed it but I feel so bad for him.
He is having a really hard time with the ecollar & meds. He is used to coming and going as he pleases and now he can't even go up the stairs without banging the collar into the steps. The pain meds have helped keep him mellow but I don't think either of us is going to make it for 10 days dealing with the ecollar!
He has been sleeping with me, which means I'm not getting any sleep. Everytime he moves I wake up to make sure he's OK. It's like having a newborn again. Every peep and you're wide awake.

I am so sorry to hear about your baby. When Loki had to use an e-collor after his anal glad surgery for 10 days it was not easy at first - banged into things, etc - but believe it or not he got used to it.

The most important thing is that he is gettig better.

Thanks for being such a good mom.

Huggs and kisses to your baby

It is not that large, (I thought it was going to be bigger) he just keeps trying to rub up against everything. I guess the stitches are itchy.

Poor thing. Mine have always found ecollars hard to deal with, though they do get used to them after a few days.

Arlyn, thanks for the support. I know, it's just hard to see him like this. He's been so healthy all his life so this is new for us. I pick him up and hug him and tell him it's going to be Ok. I don't know if he understands, but I can't help it, it makes me feel better.

Everyone, thanks for the words of support and encouragement. It is great to have a place to talk and vent with people who understand. My family can't believe I would spend "that much money on an animal" and told me to put him down. I explained that he is healthy otherwise and I wasn't going to kill him just because he needed medical treatment. It's ok, they already think I'm nuts with all my animals. They don't see what an animal gives back to you! I can't image not having any pets in my house. I've had cats (and many other animals) my whole life.

I feel the same way. My family thinks that i am crazy that i have so many pets. I have 2 full grown iguauans (4 foot, and 2 foot long) 3 leopard geckos, my kitty shadwo, and fish.

They think that i was crazy when i spent over $500 to clear up an infection on my iguana... So i understand what you are going through to a point.

I have not had any big things with my kitty other then getting her fixed in the next 2 weeks

Best of luck with him , he will do fine once the collar is off

Well. today was a rough day for both of us. Jingle managed to get the ecollar off (my fault). Luckily I was holding him so I got it right back on, with alot of help from my son. His eye must really be itchy or something because he is determined to scratch it. Doesn't look like sleep is in the plan tonight! Also, his eye is also oozing a little again! I am going to call the vet in the morning. Hopefully the vet I like will be in! Either way, I want someone to look at it and tell me he's ok. I don't want to take any chances of it getting worse.

You and Jingle are having a rough time with that collar.

Our kitties hate them but they are necessary for a period of time post surgery.
Sadie had to wear hers for 10 days. I got little sleep during that time but we finally made it though.
You can too...just take it hour by hour, this acute recovery time will pass.

Here is a link about a few kitties experiences with collars.

You are wise to stay on top of Jingles recovery.
I'll be watching for your update to see what your vet said about Jingle's eye discharge.
You both remain in my thoughts.

Well, Jingle is definitely getting better!
The swelling has really gone down. I just wish he would stop trying to scratch it. The vet confirmed my thoughts on the discharge. As the swelling goes down it may seep a little and it doesn't happen all day long, so he is fine. I just have to keep an eye on it to make sure it isn't getting worse. He is becoming quite the spoiled little man, being hand fed wet food 2x a day (to hide the meds hehe), and sleeping in my lap or snuggled in next to me (the bf is loving that!
) all the time. But the ecollar is still his number one nemesis. He is determined to scratch his face and tries to rub up against us to get us to rub his face for him. I know that soon enough he will be back to his old self again and I just can't wait!!

i don't know if it's so much that it itches [altho i'm sure it does] or that he just wants the collar off for mobility's sake! Pixel sure didn't like hers - kept trying to 'back' out of it, poor baby! is it one of the hard plastic ones, or the soft fabric ones? sometimes i think the plastic ones, like Pixel's, need trimming, especially for a cat, whose face is usually flatter than a dog's face. i bought Pixel's at the pet store, & it was made for a dog...i think she'd've done better if i'd cut it down a bit.

It's a plastic one from the vet. He has kind of given up trying to get it off (although, I think he could if he tried), he's just having a hard time working around it.

We go back to the vet on Friday morning. Maybe the ecollar will come off then. Depends on how well it has healed. The swelling has realy gone down & he is starting to look like his self again.

That's great news.
Let's hope that darn collar comes off for good on Friday.

I'll be watching for Jingle's update.

Last night Jingle managed to get his regular collar off but the ecollar is still holding on! I can not believe how much better he looks in just 9 days. He is also returning to his old self, much more active and alert.
I guess being off the pain meds and his eye not being swollen anymore is helping that.
Only problem for me is...he is totally spoiled and insists on getting the wet food twice a day! He follows me all over the house until I give him some. At least when he is done with the ecollar & meds I won't have to sit with him to make sure he eats it all.

I will update after the vet tomorrow!
Thanks everyone for all your support. It has really made this a much easier experience.

It sounds like Jingles is progressing really well.
I'll be watching for you Friday update.

If you can...
please post some pictures of your sweetie pie and his eye.
I might be helpful to others who go through this kind of surgery.
