Hello all,
I am new to this forum. I decided to join because I just had another "fight" with my cat. He is about 14 months old. He is neutered. He was a kitten of my kitty who lives at my dad's house. Now she is an EXTREMELY affectionate cat, very smart and tame. She had some kittens and I decided that I wanted a cat for my apartment. So I picked one out hoping it was going to be a girl, but no it didn't turn out that way. My dad kept the kitten for about 2 months maybe a bit longer. My kitty was litter trained in the garage outside with the mother. Now as soon as I bought him home he has never been affectionate AT ALL. Maybe the odd time for about 2 minutes at the most. I played with him and did everything I usually do with any of my cats I've ever had. But my cat will constantly attack bite and scratch. He will never sit on my lap or let me hold him or pet him ever. He never listens. I just don't know why he hates me so much. All I wanted was a nice cudley cat. Now if I get him his distemperment shot will that help? I play with him and pet him and leave him alone when he wants to be left alone. Oh and he wags his tail constantly! Always wagging his tail even when he sleeps. I just don't know what to do and I'm letting him get away with everything now becasue it's too much effort anymore. Someone please help!

In my experience, most cats are not lap cats.
All of my current (and past) kitties only want attention on their terms, not mine.

Your kitty is still young and sounds like normal behavior to me, unless I missed a certain detail.

But my cat will constantly attack bite and scratch.
Does he just do this out of blue? When you pet him? Kittens are pretty aggressive in their play and you have to set the boundaries as to what is acceptable. If you are letting him "get away" with things he will think he is doing nothing wrong.

Check out this thread on cat aggression.

Hope this helps.
