Hello - I need some help but I better start with a little backgroud information. About 3 months ago (around the middle of Feb.) I had a stray kitty show up in my carport. To make a long story short, she didn't go away. Well about 2 weeks after she arrived I had a vet-to-pet lady come to my house and look her over and give her some shots and to discuss spaying or nuetering. Well as it turns out this was a TERRIBLE vet. She couldn't tell me if the cat was just a really young male whose testicals haven't dropped or if she was a female. Then she said well it's stomach is really hard so she is either pregnant or has worms. So she gave her some shots and worm medicine and was on her way. Well 3 months later and I have a feeling she is going to pop any minute (but then I've been thinking that way for a week now). She is VERY fat and although her nipples have been enlarged they seemed to have gotten even bigger since yesterday morning (oddly enough the nipples toward her backside are bigger that the others) but still no sign of milk. Well I locked her in my master bathroom last weekend and I noticed I small drop of blood next to her litter pan but I didn't think anything of it and on Mon. I felt sorry for her so I let her back outside. Well I talked to some people and they said KEEP HER INSIDE so I've had her inside ever since Fri. and that is where she is going to stay until the babies come. Well point of story, I woke up this morning and when I checked on her I saw the same thing, a drop of blood on the floor. When I looked in the litter box I noticed a runny stool that she didn't cover up and it had about a teaspoon of blood on/in it. I haven't noticed blood since last weekend but I haven't kept a close on it either but I do think that she has been having runny stools for about a week now. Should I be concerned? What should I do? I'm afraid to take her to the vet b/c she is a stray and I'm not sure how well she will do traveling or being put in a carrier and if she is close to delivering I don't want to put her through that, not to mention money is a bit of an issues as well. She is acting very normal, she rubs up against me, rolls in the floor, eats, drinks, plays, goes potty.... I'm a first time mommy so I don't know what to do or expect and to top it off I don't know much about this cat (history). Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.

If it has been 3 months that you have had her and she hasn't had kittens, I would feel it was safe to say she wasn't pregnant. A feline pregnancy should last around 63-67 days.
If you are still seeing loose or bloody stool, I would assume worms. Often, just one dose of worming medication does not work, many parasites will take 2 doses. You could take in a stool sample to save money, but in my opinion taking her/him to the vet is the best thing for the cat. They can also spay or neuter the kitty if that hasn't been done already.
If she is pregnant, the best thing is to make a comfortable spot for her to have her babies, such as the bathroom or a large dog crate. Make sure to keep her inside then until she is spayed, as she can become pregnant again very quickly after she delivers.
Good luck.

Welcome....first, are you certain she is pregnant? Can you see or feel any kittens? Some cats that have been outdoor only and develop a bad case of worms can look as if they are pregnant. I can understand your concern about taking her into the vet if she is indeed pregnant....however if you don't take her in, you aren't going to know whether you have a pregnant cat or simply a cat with a bad case of worms. Also, how long has she looked "pregnant"?

I hope this works, I posted a picture of Toni that was taken on April 20th. You can see how big her tummy is. I'm pretty sure she is pregnant b/c she is HUGE, her nipples are swollen and pink, and I if I look closely I can see the babies moving. I do have her confined to our big master bathroom and I have cleaned out under the sink and puts some towels under there so she has a place to have her babies when she is ready. And, just to ease your minds I do plan to have her and her babies spayed/nuetered as soon as possible. I have already found homes for two of the babies...assuming she ever has them! I really have no idea when she got pregnant but the not so smart vet-to-pet lady told me she thought she was pregnant when she came to my house on Feb. 23rd. Is a bloody loose stool a series problem? Should I take her to the vet even though it's possible she could pop at any time? Thanks for the help.

I'm not a big advocate of a large tummy being an indication of pregnancy....our rescue has had several cats that 'looked' pregnant but were not. If you are seeing the babies move, that to me is a clearer indication of her pregnancy. Milk production begins around 2-3 days prior to delivery. Since your vet wasn't sure if she was indeed pregnant at the time and you have subsequently had her outdoors...I wouldn't use Feb. 23rd as the date of record...she could have had worms at that point and only more recently became pregnant. From what you are describing she does sound as if she is due soon, however I am not a vet and my pregnancy expertise is limited....so perhaps another poster will have a clearer answer on whether you should take her in or not.

Wow, she does look pregnant in the pictures. If you can feel the babies moving, she has 2 weeks or less left.
From your first post, I read it to mean she has been pregnant for 3 months (12 weeks), which couldn't happen.
It sounds like you have a wonderful nesting area set up for her. Has she shown any interest in nesting yet?
If there is blood in the stool, yes, I would say it is cause for concern. You could take just a stool sample to the vet to find out if they find anything.
The loose stool only, could just be from stress or impending labor.
She should be eating kitten food, right now.
That is great that she will spayed after she delivers, keep her inside until the date of spaying, as she could get pregnant again if she was to slip out.

If am correct she had babies this morning. It is on another thread. To me if a female has not had a heat in 5 weeks I would say yes she is pregnant
