Hi,

My husband and I just moved into a new home that has well water with a water softener. Is it harmful to give my cats water from the tap or should I give them bottled water.

Thank you.

Softened water is usually pretty salty.

I'd give bottled, or get one of those drinking water filters that attaches to the faucet.

I agree ... the salt leval in softened h2o is high and not great for kitty... I would give bottled

I have a water softener hooked up to my well and have given all my cats tap water. There should be one faucet-ours is the cold water from the kitchen sink that is not connected to the water softener. Just make sure the water bowls are filled from that faucet.

Do you have to have the water softener? Did you have the water tested before you moved in? My cats used to get city water, now they drink the well water. Fortunately I had my water tested during my home inspection and was told that my water quality is very good- plus it tastes fine. Mine use a petmate drinkwell fountain, so it gets filtered through the carbon.
