hi guys

just wanted a bit of advice really... one of my cats, Reggie, has developed a hard lump that is moveable on the base of his spine. he doesn't seem particular bothered when i touch it but has started nibbling it! he's on medication (neo-mercazole) for an overactive thyroid problem.

any ideas or suggestions...

cheers

sarah

I don't want to scare you, but is it in a site where he has had a shot? Because there is a slight possibility of vaccine-related cancer. If the shot is more recent it could just be a reaction that will go down.
It could also just be a cyst or something. Or other stuff I don't know about.
I'd have it checked by the vet, and they can do a biopsy of the tissue and tell you what it is.

Honestly take him to a vet. My Dazy was a basset so she was prone to lumps But one was bad and was cancer. Better to get it checked now then to wait.

Don't let this scare you, it has been discussed many times (I have spoken to my vet about it also) and cases of Vaccination Sarcoma are extremely rare in the UK!

How old is Reggie? It could be a fatty lump, which older cats get. My RB kitty, Disco, had these and our vet said that if they don't cause any problems, they are fine to be left!

I would recommend a visit to your vet though, as they will know best as to what the problem is and the best way to treat it!

By the way, Welcome to TCS Sarah!

tabitha has one exactly the same. i first noticed it 3 years ago and it has't grown during that time and doesn't appear to bother her. The vet said it was common for her age and nothing to worry about. I'd still take him in though to be on the safe side.

You're welcome!

Reggie is around the same age as my Disco was when her lumps appeared! I hope that you'll visit the vet to make sure, but if they are fatty lumps, they are nothing to worry about!

Give Reggie some extra kisses and scritches from me!
