Hello
My husband is a Pastor and we just bought a building to meet in and had our first service there last week. WE have been in this building now for a couple weeks and we seem to have a church cat. She is on the small size and I would "guess" to be about a year old. Shes very skinny and appears to live under the front porch steps. We talked her into letting us pet her and once she got to know us is extremely friendly.
I called the local No Kill shelter to find out if they would take her and they said we needed to get her checked at a vet for good health and make sure she didnt have Feline Leuk. and then they would take her at the shelter for $25 donation. So the test would be $30 and then the $25 that we just cant afford. If we could afford another cat we'd just bring her home with us. **sigh**
So my question is how can I get her help. The neighbors by the church talked about calling animal control but Im sure they would just put her to sleep and I defiently dont want that. Shes such a sweet cat.
I called a family friend who runs a shelter or something......I dont know for sure Ive just heard about it from other family......and Im still waiting to hear back from her and Im praying she can help.
Any advice or imput would be great.......
Thanks
~Liz

Liz, why not just let her be a church cat? Surely the members can take up a donation to get her spayed and then just leave food for her? Perhaps she has a reason being there that you don't know about yet?

Or spread the word at church, and see if people will pitch in the money for the kitties vet care. Or even better, someone will take her home?!?

Best of luck with this little kitty!

Hello everyone!!!

Well she cant be a church cat because my husband does not want her to be.
Although I understand because we have an older lady who is allergic to cats and she gets all freaked out with the cat at the door. The cat will literally try and get in the church every time the door is opened. And its not something we want people to have to fight with when they come to church every service. Apparently the neighbors have all been feeding her but no one is willing to take her in. We have been asking around and Ive been on the phone with local shelters and I have an appt to call the local APL this morning so we shall see what they say. I wont take her though if they say they will put her to sleep. I totally think she is adoptable so I dont see why they would do that.

Thanks for all the advice.......Ill let you know what happens.

WE BROUGHT HER HOME!!!! Im so excited. My husbands cousin works with shelters and she is helping us so we are fostering her.
Im so excited!! She is such a beautiful calico and so loving. We are actually thinking about keeping her..........So far shes went to the vet today and she is healthy. I gave her some frontline and we are going to give her some meds for worms in the next few day and set up her appt to be spade.
She is happily at home in my oldest daughters bedroom. We are keeping her separate from STormy for a few weeks and then we may or may not introduce them. We shall see. Ill have to post pictures here in the next few days.....

Thanks everyone!!!

Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement !!
She is doing so well.........shes such a good cat. And I almost hate to even whisper it but*** shes got a better personality than Stormy*** shhhh dont tell Stormy.
Shes such a love bug and wants you to pet her and love on her all the time. I dont see one bad trait that she has. Shes been very good and hasent scratched at anything, nor does she bite at all. Which surprised me. Stormy will still "play" bite you when shes playing. This cat forget it........she will play but doesnt "play" bite at all which makes me think she might be older than they think???? They said she was maybe 1 year old. But Stormy is 8 months old and acts much younger. I dont know we will see what they say when she goes back to get fixed. We just love her so much already and I just dont think my kids will be able to part with her. I truely think the Lord gave her to us. I mean my husband said NO to another cat. No matter what we were not getting another cat. Then we get this church building and we are in it for two weeks and this cat makes her appearance. Of course we werent there every day at first so we didnt see her, but then there she is and she doesnt go away. The next week and 1/2 she is there every day and shes so loving and starving.
So we love her and feed her and then I start trying to find her someplace to go and no place will take her without it being $$$$ we dont have. Then my husbands cousin calls and Wham its all taken care of.......if only we can foster her. So we get the baby off the streets
and bring her home and without me even asking........hubby says "you may as well keep her, you know you want her" .........lol Who would have known.
So now we wait and see how they all get along........the two cats and the dog........and go from there.

That's wonderful, Liz! Cats have a way of showing up and choosing their "owners". I think you were destined to end up with this little sweetie.

I'm so glad you are keeping her. God was obviously looking out for this kitty to put her at your church. This situation sounds like how we got Annabelle. She kept coming to our door, since my husband put food out for her. Eventually he let her in and kept saying that we couldn't keep her, but we could keep her until we found her a home. She quickly became our cat. Now she is Nate's favorite cat and she follows him everywhere.

Hello

Things are going very well. Snickers has become fast friends with our tabby, Stormy, and our Beagle, Daisy. Daisy has learned that Snickers has claws and wont mess with her anymore.lol
But everyone has adjusted well. She is officially our cat now and we are just waiting to see if she is pregnant before we get her fixed. WE have a very sneaky idea that she is. My kids are all very excited and hoping she is.
Im thinking in another two weeks we should know for sure. I dont know too much about pregnant cats but Ive been reading and researching and although she was such a tiny twig when we found her I did search for nipples on her to make sure she didnt have any kittens out there before we trapped her and brought her home. I felt nothing......well we brought her home and settled her in and now after having her for one week......there are nipples that you can find very easily. So now we just wait and see.
If shes pregnant then we will wait until the kittens arrive and are weaned to get her fixed. If shes not then I will take her next month.
Its been fun and we love her to pieces.

Thanks for asking!
