I just got a new cat, a Blue Point Himilayan female. I already had a red Persian, who is the most gentle boy ever. We have begun our socialization process but there has been some hissing going on. I've only let the cats be in the same room for short periods of time and just when I'm present. So far we have not had any fighting. Last night the new kitty came by me on the couch and I petted her a little bit but then later when she was down on the floor I reached toward her and she hissed, batted and even growled at me. I'm not able to pick her up so I have to lure her back to her room with treats when I let her out of her room. My golden boy seems to be afraid of her...he just cowers back in a corner and stares. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to The Cat Site

I don't have any answers to your questions... someone will probably move this to the behavior forum, and I'm sure you will get lots of suggestions there.

See ya on the forums.

She may just be stressed from the new situation she's in. I say give them time to both calm down. When introducing my two females, they were both cranky as can be towards eachother and us for about a month. Now they're best friends!

Its just going to take time. Keep letting them be in the same room together with your supervision. Sounds like shes just scared and so isn't your other cat. Time and patience.Long as though there is no fighting . I have added two kittens to my family of 3 this past year. And I was able to let them be in the same room with me there, after the first couple of days. But it was a good month before they settled in and stopped having the occasional hiss at each other.

Unfortunately, the situation did escalate to fighting. I returned the Himmi to the cat rescue I got her from after 2 1/2 weeks of trying to make friends with her. I may try another cat....I'm taking a break from it....very stressful.
