Has anyone ever had a cat that NEEDED to be pet while eating? It's my parents cat, 5 year old Amelia (female orange tabby), and she won't eat unless someone is petting her...my parents say she gets very "excited" if you keep petting her...now, she has lived with several other cats that she hasn't gotten along with - at first we thought she needed to be pet for assurance she was "safe" with her back turned to everything, but this behaviour has continued for over a year......any ideas?

Cinders likes to be petted whilst she is eating. I oblige for the first 15 seconds and then stop - she continues to eat quite happily as long as I am nearby...

YES! THANK you for the memories! My Late Little Miss Incredible, Corkie! She not only wanted petting BUT you HAD to think about her or talk to her. NO LIE! IF your thoughts went off of her she KNEW it and stopped eating!

She was one SPECIAL little girl! NEVER was and NEVER will be any better!

My Scarlett, also a female orange tabby will walk away from her food unless you stand there and pet her and talk to her. I believe that female orange tabbies are just little queens and need the pampering! LOL

My newest kitty, Hannah, likes to be petted and talked to while she eats. I only do it for a few seconds, and she'll continue to eat....until she's discovered I've left the room!!
When she's really hungry, she'll eat without me petting her.

My male cat likes to be petted too. He won't start eating until I pet him. I pet him for a few seconds and then he eats fine. He does look up at me every once and a while and I have to tell him to "keep eating!" and goes right back to it! So cute!

Well i don't have to pet mine while they eat, but i do have to hold Rambo back or else he's inexplicable more attracted to Lucky's food then his own. So now i've taken to petting him as long as he stays at his own dish....silly boy!
