question about raw food

ok i read the artical about raw buit im not sure how u would even go about starting it im not sure any places around where i live even sell anything like it or anything to make it. is there a way to kind of do both raw and reg cat food and what kind of raw meat would u use?

Yes you can use it together ... though all raw is best... Kandie demands fish a few times a week and so she gets it ..lol..

my girls like chn and rabbit ... I am a bit worried about bird flu so I am trying beef and buffalo in there mix

I feed raw and canned. But the canned is only feed three times a week. I use organic turkey.

ok asked vet what he thought about canned vs dry his reply was that as cats get older they are finding that canned is better because of more moister and helps flush out the system he said he would have me consider changing when they turn 8 or older.

I make my own, i use organic whole chicken and turkey(rabbit soon) with the bones, i cut up everything and grind the bones, and i also supplement with call of the wild, and i use the organs also.

they enjoy whatever i feed them !!!!

There are recipes for homemade raw diets that you can find online, I think. Also, there is a pet food supply store near where I live that sells pre-made raw food that is frozen. I don't feed raw, so I'm not sure, but I think with that pre-made stuff all you have to do is defrost it.

If you're interested in feeding raw, I would suggest looking to see if there is some sort of supply store near you. Something that is not a national chain and sells supplies for small and large domestic animals. Those type of stores usually have the higher quality commerical foods as well - such as Innova, Wellness, etc. I don't believe stores like Petco and PetSmart sell the highest end food. At least I've never seen it in the Petco and PetSmart here, just at the locally own Pet Food Warehouse.

I use the Bravo brand and recommend it. I think it's ok to offer a little high quality dry kibble as well. Mine get kibble as a treat. 10% of their diet max.

I'm not a fan of dry food at all, but my cats enjoy eating it from time to time, so I treat it as a snack food for them.

Mad cow disease is more common than the bird flu. I won't let that make the decision as all meat has some chance of illness.

As for the question... I feed turkey and chicken. The rabbit never went over well, nor did duck. Also, chicken and turkey necks are the softest bones to start the animal out on learning to eat bone. You can feed regular food and once adn a while give them some necks to eat just to get started.

very true...

turkey necks no one would touch these are the same girls that wont touch tripe either ... where do you get chn necks??

Hehe well I say this but I actually can't find either of them :p: but it seems other people have no problem so I often suggest it. When I ask the meat section if they have any they respond "Oh you do a raw food diet for your dog?" Hey at least its getting popular but nobody actually carries them! I should just go to the butcher and see what I can find.

Just wondering if any of u guys warm up the food before serving? i warm the food in a bowl of warm water so its not so cold.

for the cat yes , i let it "warm up" for about five minutes and use a tad of warm water to give it gravey ... the dog perfers here fridge cold
