Hello... I'm writing to figure out what to do about my cat chicky.. My boyfriend found her in a friend's garage when she was about 10 wks. old. Since then I've raised her... Now the problem is that she has RAN AWAY.. now she has done this before.. in Thanksgiving of '03.. I think it was because of too many visitors.. Since then I've placed bells on her collar.. I can hear her jingleing out side.. and its DRIVING ME NUTS!! I'm wondering if she is now a feral cat.. its been a week since she left me.. I did have visitors... I think she split because of that.. I leave food out.. windows open, grage door open.. yet she will not return.. WHAT CAN I DO???

Hi, sorry to hear that she has ran away.If you can hear her bell jingling though surely she is not far so you could just follow the jingles until you reach her and bring her in.
Have you asked the neighbours if they are feeding her? That may be why she hasnt come home, if she were hungry im sure she would.

I would borrow a humane trap from the local humane society and set it up..however you can trap her and bring her home.

Is it possible she is stuck? Cat's can get stuck easier then you might think. Do you hear her bell only in one spot? Then that might be the best place to start. Call her name, put out her favorite food and hide. You will be able to tell if she is stuck at least! -LB

Thanks every one for the support.. Im wondering, is it possible for her to be looking for a mate even though she is not in heat?? And if so... can she become pregnant???

If she's not spayed, yes she could be off "catting around". Not every cat is as obvious as the usual case. I do hope that she comes back soon, so that she can get spayed & be more content enjoying the warm, loving home that is hers.

Some cats have "silent" heats. You would never guess they were ever in heat. If she is in heat she is probably out looking for a mate and will come home when she is pregnant. -LB

Yes she can become pregnant if she is not spayed. Below is a list of low cost spay/neuter clinics:

If she does come home...I would set up a spay appt. ASAP.

JUST COME HOME, CHIKY! Preggers or not! BTW, cats can be spayed when they are early pg. but you have to realize that it is an "abortion". I had to make that difficult decision once with a stray - the kittens were already little bulges inside a very sickly, emaciated mom. The vet recommended it because mom was so ill. But it was very sad, 5 little kits who never got to live a day. Mom did surprisingly well and made a full recovery, so I guess the vet was right. That was in 1986 & I still remember what a difficult and painful decision that was - after that, I got every cat that came my way neutered - even if it meant putting off paying the bills.

Can you put out an article of your clothing with your scent on it. Sometimes the best time to lure them in the house/garage is when it is dark. Did you shine a flashlite around and see her?? Sprinkle a trail of food to the house?? Open a can if tuna and call her?? If she is not spayed this is a time of year that she could be looking for a mate!!

I'm so pleased with this site.. thank god I found it!! You guys helped out a bunch...with your ideas and encouragement!! I LOVE YOU!!
Chicky came back Friday Morning at around 5:30 am, extremly thirsty and extremly tired!! I helped her in by leaving her kitty litter.. still soiled.. and garge door open.. she found her way to the laundry room where she began to SCREAM for help!! I let her in right after a warm bath... THANK YOU ALL!!
P.S. Chicky will be getting spayed soon... but Im still curoius if cats can become pregnant even when not in heat.. I heard cats mating.. and I heard her bells run off right afterwards.. maybe a fight?? Her heats are very obvious because she rolls around and meows for long periods of time.. this behavior hasn't happened..yet.. can she get preggo even with no heat???

CONGRATULATIONS

I am so pleased to hear that Chicky has come back!! I bet your so pleased
It would be a good idea to get her checked out by the vet if you can.

Yes she can become pregnant even when not in heat. You need to make sure she stays inside now until you can get her spayed

i am going to merge this with your other thread so that those giving you advise on Chicky can see this great news

Chiky...yes, she can get pregnant at any time. I would highly recommend that you take Chiky to see a vet. Also, since she has already been outdoors..you need to keep a close eye on her so she does not get out again until she has been spayed.

Best of luck finding your Chicky but why did you let her outside knowing she was not spayed?
Domestic cats are not local wildlife but wild animals who eat smaller animals don't care about that, neither do obnoxious drivers who look for cats along the sides of roads to run over and used for target practice.
I hope she comes back to spare you the harsh reality but please be more responsible with your baby in the future.

Katie posted some great low cost spay clinics that you can take advantage of when she returns so she won't need to go lookin' for lovin'.

I hope she comes home safely, you shouldn't have to go through this again.
You seem like a really nice person.
