I have a neutered male cat, about 2 years old, and he's recently started to act up when it seems like he's not "getting what he wants". "Recently" being the past month or so just after I moved into a new apt., and getting worse with each week. This was his 3rd move, so I dont think its the "new home". He's normally a loving lap cat who loves to be pet, but sometimes seems like he throws a temper tantrum. It usually happens like when doors are shut and he wants in the room, or for whatever other unknown reasons. He used to rip up the carpet in front of the door, but now he gets angry. His tail flaps around like any normal 'mad' cat would while he's sitting there growling, and he'll attack it frequently, hissing and spitting. He doesnt attack people, but if you were to try and pet him while he's like this, he'll bite ya once to show he's mad(not a hard bite). I know how to show him attention so that he will calm down a little bit, but his tail is still frantic and he breates heavier like he's still mad. He will start back up shortly after I stop petting him.

I cant tell if this is maybe some sort of 'anger/temper' issue, or something else. I plan on taking him to the vet to get checked out to make sure he's not hurt, he doesnt seem to be. He hates his stomach being touched, but I've noticed a lot of cats like that, so it doesnt seem unusual.

Sorry for such a long post, I'm just tryin' to be as accurate as I can.
Does anyone have any insight on this?

Actually, cats are not fond of "changes" in their lives. All your moving about may be causing your kitty more stress than you think. But it's great you are having him checked out by the vet first.

Have a vet check to make sure he's not in pain or something. There may have been another cat previously living in the apartment that he is smelling or one outside that he sees as threatening his territory. I would suggest a Feliway diffuser to help calm him down. They are available at most of the big pet stores and on line. A bit pricey but a number of people have had success with them.
