So this sunday a racing friend of ours had is sweet 16. He got and Explorer with 2 10's in the back, a 500 dollar cd player, 4 tickets to a NASCAR race, and a trip to Valdosta for a week. Ples a blow out birthday bash. Does anyone else think this isa little excessive? What did you get for you 16th birthday?

I got a cheap pair of diamond earrings and a diamond ring. No car, no trip, no concert or any kind of ticket, no big birthday bash.

i think sweet 16s are getting a little out of hand these days!

I think I got clothes, a CD and my grandparents gave me a gold bracelet. I think kids should work for their 1st car.

I agree, I think they are getting out of hand - especially the show My Super Sweet 16 - their parents are throwing their children million dollar parties - but, i guess its their money so I can't really judge them.

I remember for my 16th I got a pair of diamond earrings from my parents and Grandparents, and I had to buy my own car!

He raced go karts for a long time as a kid and his dad did all the work. all he did was drive. when it came time to clean them up then next day he would help clean ours but not his own. Now he has a drag truck and he wants to get a late model.
I also think a kid should earn their first cat. I had to pay for half of mine which I am glad I did because I got to choose my car and when I got it. I was almost 18 before I got "my" car.

That definately sounds excessive to me. I hope hes a responsible kid....cuz words I see (admitting Im making stereotypes about immature young male drivers) are 16....loud stereo.....explorer....racing... yikes!
I dont even remember what I got for my 16th (though diamond jewelery certainly wouldnt have disappointed
), my 18th birthday party was a much bigger affair

I got a big telescope from my mom and step-dad, and an astronomy book and a promise ring from my boyfriend..
I got a few small things, but those were the big presents.

Freudian slip! We know what is most important in your mind.

I got a trip to the emergency room for my 16th
Our dog (at the time) bit my hand, and I spent my ENTIRE sweet 16, and golden birthday might I add, in the emergency room

And I don't think any 16 year old should get a car for their birthday- they are just too irresponsible at that age- especially with the 10's

edit: not to say that they should'nt drive, but the responsibility of owning and maintaining a car IMO is just to much at that age- heck I can barely keep up with my car at 24 lol

I'm sure it was right around my 16th b-day that I got my first car. Yes, my parents bought me a car - but it was a $600 VW Bug that was as old as I was! Seriously - we were both "made" in 1972. The reasoning behind them buying us (my sister and I) our first cars is that they wanted us to concentrate on getting good grades, not on a job. Dad always said there were plenty of years for us to worry about money and jobs, and high school shouldn't be those years. But we certainly didn't get new anything for cars! Also, since I was pulling a 3.85 GPA (no weighted grades back then, so 4.0 was the best possible), they figured I was doing my "job" of being a student well enough to deserve it.

I got an addidas jumper for my 16th and we went out to a restaurant. Then my "friend" came over but i wasnt home! He took me out the next day to Phantasia land and that was my 16th!
But for my 16th christmas I got a two month trip to australia

Now for my 18th i didnt get anything just some money. My dad had always said i would get a car for my 18th but i didnt have my license.
I bought a car that was 100 euros on ebay a few months before my 18th but that was with my own money
I still dont have my license
Its so expensive in germany i think i should just go to america to get it done!

w.t.f. that's extravagant.

uhh. I got a video game, a framed picture, and a wine rack that my mother had mistaken for a CD rack.

I think my most extravagant birthday was this year, but that's because my parents bought me furniture for my apartment.. at least that's something I NEED.

lol, i worked my entire 16th birthday. My first car was a 1990 Ford Festiva, that I repaired for $300 on my own. I owned it, and loved it, and it was my baby, lol. Thats crazy that his parents bought him all that!

I can't even remember what I got, and it was only 3 years ago! Definately not a car, and I would not have appriciated it at that age either!
